    Not surprising. Thurman's no throwback.

He would avoid criticism if he just freaking said "Errol Spence is a great champion and to beat him I will have to be at 100 percent so this will be a get back year BUT IN THE FIRST QUARTER OF 2019 me and him will get it on." If he set a damn date he would avoid a lot of the criticism he's getting.

He only fights once a year, and it will be a tune up. Porter next year. Garcia the year after that, and then Spence in 2 years lol

The way he's acting, he might fake a retirement in 2019 and vacate or some **** like that (another random injury). He could fight the tune up, then rematch one of Porter/Garcia, then retire. After thinking about those "I'm not hungry like I used to be" comments, it's possible lol it's January 2018 and he's saying he can't fight the guy until 2019 lol

Telling someone to defend their belt before they ‘earn’ the right to eat at your table is so ****** it doesn’t even deserve analysis

                January 24, 2018:

“You know, it’s a funny business right now with Keith Thurman fighting Jessie Vargas,” Porter aid. “Nothing against Jessie at all. That’s my boy. But I’m in line to fight Keith Thurman. This is Keith Thurman’s doing. Like I said, the best thing I can do is stay ready. If they say, ‘Hey, we want you to fight Danny Garcia,’ I welcome that fight.

“Why? Because I was trying to get that fight two years ago, before I fought Keith Thurman. Three years ago now, before I fought Keith Thurman. So that’s still a fight I welcome. Outside of that, it’s Keith Thurman. I’ve been fighting to get that rematch for a long time.”

Where exactly in that article and interview did he say he would not fight Spence?

Right now Porter is ranked #1 by the WBC. He's not ranked by the IBF which is the title Spence holds. I'm guessing Porter just has more leverage to make a fight with Thurman than he does Spence. Even though they are all under the PBC umbrella. Lets see what happens in the second half of the year when Spence and Porter are looking for dance partners. The fight could very well happen.

                  A soft touch in May.
Porter, Garcia, or Vargas in November.
Then a Spence super fight in early 2019. All while Spence keeps dominating and calling him out.

I see no problem with this and this how you marinate a huge fight; play the cat and mouse buildup game. Thurman is playing the Mayweather/Canelo role to Spence's Pacquiao/GGG by being the top guy "afraid" of the boogeyman. This only adds fuel to the promotion and takes it to high octane levels by the time it happens. Thurman is a calculated guy, he's getting the response/hate from everyone that he wanted.

                    Thurman response makes sense...........

I posted previously Thurman should fight Vargas then Porter then Spence. It's a business so fighting Spence in 2019 makes sense even if fans want it now. You have to be 100% to take on Spence and anything less than that is a suicide mission and disrespect to Errol and his skill level.

He said he would welcome a fight with Garcia, and then said "outside of that..." Spence Jr. is part of the "outside of that..."
