Comments Thread For: Thurman: I'm Not Fighting Spence in '18; This is a Get-Back Year

NEW YORK Keith Thurman and Errol Spence Jr. stood about five feet apart Wednesday when Thurman was introduced on the stage as part of Showtime's "2018 Boxing Upfront" event at a Manhattan restaurant. It's about as close as we might come to the undefeated welterweight champions squaring off for quite some time. Thurman reiterated following the event that he has no intention of fighting Spence later this year. Spence repeatedly has said Thurman is the opponent he wants to fight most.

If he doesn't fight Spence in early 2019, he's officially ducking. I understand taking a couple tune-ups (after being injured) before fighting the guy who is arguably the best in the division.

            Yeah... That's disappointing.

Thurman might not even win either rematch against Garcia or Porter. But they are more beatable for him than Spence.

And aside from them- I don't think there is anyone else eligible or deserving of a fight, because he isn't going to fight Crawford anytime soon because of their promoters.

Thurman only has tough fights available. 147 is stacked. Hope he doesn't take a fight outside of this sphere of contenders.

I lost a lot of respect for Thurman with this nonsense. What happened to “I have an O and I’m not afraid to let it go...”
