There is no reason for Hearn to treat Wilder like a side show. If Joshua wants to treat is home crowd to a bunch of fights with ninnies, then let him have it. I would want to wait for Wilder to get old, too.
I like to call it the Manny-Pac effect.
    hes holding money.

joshua is not going to wait for wilder to get old like floyd did to manny. wilder will not be around for long and wilder also isnt a huge star like manny was. floyd and manny were seling the same exact ppv nmbers when floyd refused the fight and offered manny only 40 mill. cant say the same about wilder and joshua.

He can treat wilder like a sideshow because aj makes more money in one fight than deontay has his entire career. Let's not pretend that they're on the same level commercially right now

hes probably not hte best guest for a talk show. he beats women, beats mentally challenged people, beats up collegues in front of their families, and says things like mind bobblin. maybe a certain segment would find that appealing

Things don't work that way in the US. A boxing promoter is the most irrelevant part of a fighters camp in the US, imo.

Boxers would do much better working with agents who are outside of boxing, from places like WME or CAA, who have existing relationships with corporate partners and media outlets. That's what UFC does for its fighters who are worthy and it works. You see commercials with them all the time here. Boxers only show up in terrible beer commercials. There's been a few one-off tv spots but no campaigns that I can think of in recent memory.

Boxing promoters don't have those relationships in the US. Top Rank is the closest because they have a powerful law firm in LA that connects them to certain communities of professionals.

Mayweather was different. He did Dancing w/ the Stars when the show was at it's climax and that blew his name up (the show was averaging 25 million viewers per episode and they do a bunch of PR on the contestants), then he got into a bunch of trouble so his name was everywhere. Manny was popular in large part due to him being perceived as Floyd's rival. Which is why his fights suffered from large fluctuations in PPV sales.

The people in boxing aren't legitimate power players in the world of media and entertainment here and boxers really suffer for it. Bob Arum was the closest before he got old and ridiculous. But fighters are making more money than ever now, so it's hard to complain. Haymon has TV relationships but his background is in music and concert promotion, and he's always been independent, sort of like King was (without the criminal behavior).

Likely true words, as it does not appear that DiBella is heavily promoting Wilder enough. But that could come when he gets a big name opponent in the ring with him and he gets a victory.

I have a feeling all of this will be dug up if he ever achieves fame.

A promoter is just the face of the operation, you obviously have management, PR people and others getting you deals and air-time.

If Anthony Joshua can get on the Late Late show then surely Wilder can. I just think he hasn't been invested in. A promoter and management team should be doing this stuff for him....it's all about marketing the fighter...and I believe it is achievable in America and boxing CAN become popular again. It just needs someone to get behind and capture the general public again.

I understand what you're saying, but there are basically no contemporary examples to support that argument. We have maybe 10 guys in the last 30 years who are what you'd call a household name in the US from boxing. Tyson, Holyfield, Lewis, Manny, Floyd, Oscar, RJJ, Bernard, and the Klitchkos (and the last three weren't box office guys here) and Floyd wasn't very popular when he had a promoter either. *Mosley might be close to that group as well.

Boxing needs more real professionals. It's flooded with random characters that are outdated and not very well connected in my view. Fighters do need a team, but they need the right people. Boxing in large part doesn't have those people.

Wilder Got almost 900k on viewers, on Showtime non-the-less, for a fight no one was interested in. Not many American fighters can do that. He's obviously a star here in the US already. Hearn needs to stop with the BS and just admit Joshua needs a few more fights before fighting Wilder. The appeal and fan demand is already there. This fight could be as big or bigger than the Klitchko fight if the fight summer, 2018.
