Same story in the U.K, only maybe 10 guys in the last 30 years. Bruno, Eubank, Mcguigan, Haye, Lewis, Khan (maybe) Joshua....I'm struggling here.
What has helped is that Sky (who show football) have managed to promote their fighters during half time and on their news channel, it really helps build a fight and profile. Boxing has been given a boost which, in-turn, has enticed sponsors back into the game, and we're seeing the fruits of that now with BT and Channel 5 now showing boxing events and dong good numbers....it's a snowball effect.
Now I know America is a much more diverse and splintered market, but the same thing was said about boxing in the U.K 5 years ago....until Sky and Joshua elevated the game....Rome wasn't built in a day.
What America needs is to bring the glitz back to boxing, and someone in the vain of Joshua (could even be him) to really bring back attention to the sport.
I'm not going to say it will ever be on the level of popularity as in the U.K, but there must be a way to get the general public interested again, and the same snowball effect will happen.
