Joe Calzaghe vs Andre Ward

He still got put down pretty hard by a guy that arguably wouldn't even crack top 30 in today's light heavy scene. If that was a punch from Kovalev, Stevenson, Beterbiev, Bivol, Gvozdyk even Joe Smith, Jones would've been out cold.
That's the equivalent of Ward getting dropped by a guy like Brand, and if that happened people would be shytting all over him for it.
The referee had to use a towel on 2 occasions to dry it.

joe would win, trust me on that. wards a world class fighter but joe was near on unbeatable at 168. Ward likes fighting on the inside, but guess what, so does joe. hed be far too busy, far too much volume of shots coming wards way. Wards not unbeatable, most though kov beat him and he was 115-113 on two of the cards against froch. It would be one of joes closer fights but youre looking at the region of 116-112, 117-111 on the scorecards. Ward similar to hopkins and joe landed more shots on bernard than any fighter in his career had done, think he outlanded him by double the punches almost. its criminal how underrated joe is on this forum.Comment

Joe Calzaghe all day long. 46-0 for a very good reason. So Joe was a "slapper" w 32 ko's and Ward is a grappler, head butt, holder. Watch the Lacy fight and you would see Ward would have been in for his first defeat in my honest opinion. Joe was a punching machine period.
Joe couldn't replicate his performance against Lacy when he fought the likes of Bika, Kessler and Hopkins.
Why do you think that was?Comment

it wasnt a gift man, hbo had him 116-111 up for a reason, cause he put on a clinic. joe looked great that night, compubox isnt 100 percent accurate, but when i watched that fight joe was the aggressor, joe was landing the shots, hopkins was just fighting negative- he was outgunned.
Ha!
Maybe if you watched the fight after taking copious amounts of LSD.Comment

Guys like you completely ignore context to fit your agenda, idk how many times you've been told Eubank had to lose 20lbs in 2 weeks to fight Joe and you act like it doesn't matter. Eubank got beaten 2x immediately after fighting Joe to journeyman Carl Thompson.
Joe struggled mightily with Reid, a guy who lost to Mulanga 1 fight before Joe, and lost 1 fight after Joe to Branco. Again, you ignore context.
Lacy, struggled mightily with journeyman Omar Sheika, again you ignore context.
RJJ, brutally KO'd by Tarver, Johnson 4 years earlier, once again you ignore context.
Woodhall, jesus christ you're reaching, clear losses to Beyer/Holmes, arguably lost to Catley, once again you do your mental gymnastics.
Brewer couldn't even beat Ottke, one of the biggest jokes in boxing, Ottke didn't even need a signature robbery to win the fight lmao. Also stopped by Veit 2 years later.
Bika, just like Kessler Ward fought him and beat him far more convincingly than Joe.
Context matters, YDKSAB without it.
A guy getting dropped by shot to **** RJJ, feather fisted Hopkins, struggling with Reid, getting dropped by journeyman like Mitchell is somehow going to handle the punches of Froch, Barrera, Kovalev etc.Comment

Where do you get your ganja from?
You make it sound like it wouldn't even be a fight. Look at Hopkins he had to fake low blows just to catch his breath. Calzaghe was busy and had more speed than Ward so say what you want and try your best to belittle the Hall Of Fame longest reining SM champ 10yrs, record number of defences etc etc
And Calzaghe would have schooled Froch.
Joe being the longest reigning champ at SMW isn't a huge accomplishment. It just shows a lack of ambition. Nobody else would have squeezed themselves down from 190 pounds to spend 14 years there.
His 21 WBO defences weren't that great either. Look at who he fought. They were mostly B and C class fighters, and only 7 of the defences were mandatories.Comment
