what Ward is doing is not even the sport of boxing.

dude is competing in a different sport that's somehow even more boring than wrestling itself. all he does is blanket action with his illegal tactics.

The answer to your question is no, I don't like or enjoy Ward's style. However, keep one very important point in mind, I will never criticize any boxer, no matter how boring I find them or how unsatisfying I feel watching them, provided as long as they stick to the rules of boxing and don't consistently break the rules by using illegal moves.

I am a firm believer that criticism is justified only when either a boxer is evidently breaking the rules of boxing or when a boxer has weaknesses in his abilities that he has to improve or develop. Otherwise, provided that the boxer is sticking to the rules of boxing, they can box anyhow they want for all I care. Sometimes, I will find that boxer entertaining and enjoyable. Other times, I will find another not very entertaining and enjoyable. However, I won't complain if they aren't breaking the rules of boxing. If I don't find them very enjoyable, I will leave and not watch their fights except on rare occasions, possibly for educational purposes for studying their style instead of watching them from an entertainment perspective. The boxers I do find enjoyable, I will spend more of my time watching them.

With Andre Ward, my criticisms are justified as Andre Ward consistently breaks the rules of boxing. Yes, I don't enjoy watching him fight. However, my criticisms aren't directed towards me not enjoying his style but because he consistently performs illegal moves during his bouts.

I didn't enjoy Wladimir Klitschko's performance against Ruslan Chagaev, but because he didn't break any rules, I offered no criticism towards Wladimir Klitschko for that performance. I did re-watch that fight, byt purely from an educational perspective just to understand how Wladimir Klitschko controlled distance during that bout instead of from an entertainment perspective, as I did find that fight boring.

When Wladimir Klitschko fought Alexander Povetkin, not only did I find Wladimir Klitschko boring but he also broke rules consistently and repeatedly. me along with others were absolutely justified in criticizing Wladimir Klitschko for that specific performance against Povetkin.

That's a big problem for me, too. I like Wlad's style as effective although not always exciting but he does get KOs many times. However, the Povetkin fight was atrocious. He shoved him down so many times that it seemed like he was genuinely doing anything at all to neutralize Povetkin's attacks which make me think he was afraid of Povetkin's power. It's okay to be afraid but breaking the rules is breaking the rules and shouldn't ever be justified.

When we start justifying our favorite fighters in breaking the rules, it's all well and good as long as their winning. However, when a fighter we don't like does it and we criticize them for it, we are obvious hypocrites. So I agree with you. Ward's cheating against Kessler was dreadful and he should have been punished for it, but he wasn't. That was terrible. He had the audacity to claim he was not a dirty fighter in the post fight interview. What? Is he crazy? Does he think we the audience didn't just see him cheat like hell? Kessler was much kinder about it than I would have been. I would have sued and called every name in the book to his face along with the referee as well.

In his other fights, he hasn't cheated as blatantly, but his instincts are there. If he's threatened, he will damn sure start clinching and he'll break those rules as long as he can get away with it. This is also the fault of the referees for not penalizing him. Kovalev was very aware of this, as exhibited by his own tactics to neutralize Ward's cheating whenever he got close. I don't blame him. Clinching kills a fight and elbows and head butts cause cuts and damage that weaken you over time. Ward resorts to cheating even when I think he doesn't even have to. Maybe he's just mean deep down. Either way, its' not admirable.

I think AW is worse. Aw. Haha. Just realized his initials sound like a plea of sympathy for the audience. Anyway, Hopkins are least gave us that cool bit of doing push-ups between rounds with Pascal.

Exactly! Cheating shouldn't be allowed or tolerated and breaking the rules shouldn't be allowed or tolerated. One shouldn't justify cheating or breaking the rules. Criticism is always warranted on any boxer blatantly cheating or breaking the rules.

As long as a boxer is sticking to the rules of boxing and isn't cheating, how that boxer fights or the style that the boxer adopts is entirely the boxer's own choice. Whether I find that boxer enjoyable or not is irrelevant. Personally, I find most boxers who stick to the rules of boxing at least somewhat enjoyable, or at the very least, admirable. Some boxers I like more and some boxers I like less. However, you won't get any criticism from me.

Following the rules is something that is generally expected. Rule breakers usually get booed and for good reasons. Now, do fouls happen and many times unintentionally? Yes, they do. However, this doesn't mean some fighters don't cheat on a regular basis and due to poor officiating, they get away with it. This is always a black eye to the sport when cheating goes unpunished. Fans lose respect for the sport. If a guy can get by with that, what's the point? I see every foul called in basketball. After enough fouls, you're out of the game. Life isn't fair, but in a sport where we can control the elements at work, fairness is expected when it comes to rule breakers. The sport only suffers when cheaters get away with cheating. Bad decisions too but that's a different topic.

And yes, some styles I like and others I don't. But different styles make the sport interesting. I wouldn't have that any other way. I will say that there has become a sort of A-side fighter type thinking where the B-side fighter has to knock A out or beat him every round overwhelmingly and put up with his cheating to beat him. That has to stop. A win is a win regardless of who either fighter is.
