Well I can't disagree that it is pointless to compare modern fighters to past greats. In fact it's just an exercise in futility IMO cos we just never will know how things would play out H2H. But this is like, y'know ... a boxing forum ... where peoples come to chat **** about boxing. Amongst the various other crap some people like to talk about is how fighters would fare against past greats. Yes it's pointless but it's not like Floyd's being singled out in some way, pretty much every top fighter gets the same treatment.
And I'm sorry if you felt I was putting words in your mouth - that was not my intention, it's just you sounded as if you were offended by the thread in some way.
So. Who ya got? FMJ or JCC?

Lol it's all good brother. You made some good points. But I've said before JCC pressure would be too much for Floyd in my opinion.Well I can't disagree that it is pointless to compare modern fighters to past greats. Dela Hoya himself says that Chavez was old and past his prime and that the fight would have been different if they fought in their primes.
Also, which are the similarities between the styles of Dela Hoya and Mayweather to make a comparison?, because i made mine in the pressure they put on Floyd that was the bread and butter of Chavez.Comment

I give the advantage to Mayweather. JCC had the style that was made for Floyd. Meldrick Taylor was winning the fight until it was stopped in the last few seconds. He was also more offense-minded than Floyd which worked to JCCs advantage. Whitaker got screwed on the cards and fought a great fight. Stood in front of him and made him miss, even hurt him a few times. He landed 100 more punches than JCC that night.
Floyd would fight him the same way he fought Maidana in the rematch. Run, clinch, elbow and sneak in his pot shots. JCC would have to chase him all night and while I think he would catch him and win a few rounds cutting off the ring, I say Floyd wins 8 rounds to 4 in a not-so-great fight.Comment

Agree with this. Maidana tried to smother Mayweather and couldn't pull it off but it was bothering the hell out of Floyd. Canelo isn't a hunter, he's a counterpuncher so easy pickings for Floyd. Chavez Sr., one of the greatest of all time, would give Mayweather fits.Floyd Mayweather Sr knew this as well. He talked about Kell Brook vs Golovkin in the way that he knows about his son's style.
"Kell is a good boxer. But Triple G. Has a punch. annnnd...................... He will SMOTHER YOU."
that is the style to beat boxers. Especially against Mayweather's pillows.
you can't be trying to look for angles from the outside and let the boxers reset like canelo. it doesn't matter how big canelo is, he was never going to beat a technician due to his style. The smothering style is the only way to beat a technician.Comment

Floyd by UD. He's bigger, faster and has longer arms. His defense and accuracy would be too much for Chavez.
Chavez struggles with Randall, Taylor and Whitaker give an indication as to how the fight would go.
Castillo's success against Mayweather should also be noted. Let's say we forget about Floyd's rotator cuff, Castillo's size and pressure got to Floyd. Chavez does not have the same luxury. Floyd adjusted to the size and easily beat Castillo the second time around. That can not be discounted.Comment
