We really need to put things in perspective here. Hopkins began his career in October 1988. He didn't leave the middleweight division until June 2006. That's 18 years. You know who made his debut earlier that year. GGG. Ok. So GGG has been plying his trade in the middleweight division for almost 7 years less than B-Hop. So daring to be great my tush. The guy saw there was a young bull in the division he couldn't get past and some guys he could take advantage of at a higher weight. That he was able to keep dominating at a higher weight until he was almost 50 makes him a certified first ballot hall of famer. But it wasn't taking risks that made him great. 18 years in one division is not taking risks its padding your stats in a division you are very comfortable in.
As for the whole Canelo thing, objectively I'd agree with you. But history isn't going to remember Lara fondly. Canelo will be one of those guys that gets talked about years later because of his style, look and heritage. Like it or not, the history would weigh a victory over Canelo more than even a victory over Jacobs.
I think the big problem is that everyone, myself included underrated Jacobs. He's better than we thought and could take a punch much better than we thought.
