You're pretty close. Duran's actually #1 all-time lightweight - ahead of Leonard (Benny), Gans - and #5 all-time p4p - behind Robinson, Armstrong, Louis, Ali.

Roberto Duran was one of the most exciting fighters of all time. He was definitely one of the top three lightweights of all time, and probably #1.

Anybody who bashes Roberto Duran must hate boxing.

panamiac,,,I have a lot to do...I am not directing personal insults at you and your duran **** sucking persona...so I can not understand why you get so bent out of shape when I kick facts that you can not objectively address, only subjectively,,,,because the facts are that Duran was overrated if you review his resume....Overrated being that he is one of the greatest lightweights ever...I give you that. He has earned that, and I respect that, but when comparing him to other greats, and taking his resume that featured the worst group of fighters at lightweight that I have ever...I mean ever seen.....It is sooooo bad that over half of his fights were vs fighters that should not have even been considered as a sparring parnter....Go check his resume...it is on Boxrec.

Many get on here and try to hype up Buchanon, Dejesus, Marcil, Kyobahsi..or however you sell his name..Who the hell are they. They are not great fighters..Buchanon was a good to very good fighter, Dejesus was a very good fighter too,,,,Duran dominated the lightweight division and beat Ray leoanrd when Ray willingly fought the wrong fight. That is it....Now compare that too a fighter Mayweather who did not fight a fighter with a losing record since his 9th pro fight...(Duran had over 13 fights with fighters with LOSING RECORDS, that is not even counting fighters with records that were like wellington wheatley in 1980 well after he was a recognized champion...who had a record of 5-2 or adalberto vanegas who had a record of 2-0-1, or flash gallego who had a record of 14-14...) this is simply HORRIBLE, and to this day Panamiac will not address who that is credible and his resume is relevant when it is loaded...(there are over 40 fights like that, i stopped counting) with fighters like that he faced. He simply padded his record vs the worst competition ever, even worse than Chavez. I have heard that some of the records are not complete...this is garbage...You mean to beleive that in 1980 Duran, the technology the reporting and the level of a fighter duran was, that he could not get a fight vs a recognized fighter....

Duran was in my top ten, and argued this point vs some other boxers, and they flat out went beserk, aruging the point that I am being too nice and allowing others perceptions to influence me..and they were right. Duran is a great fighter...but not top 10. He quit instead of dealing with whatever issue he had too, and he picked up the check..Had Mayweather quit, we would never hear the end of it. He got beat by all top fighters he faced from age 29-33 this is when he got out of the lightweight.....

Help me understand how he should be ranked over a Mayweather on one big win...Yes he beat a 25-4 barkley and a 12-0 Moore, very good accomplishments, and deserves to be recognized as a great fighter,,not what mayweather is doing....Mayeather is undefeated..5 titles....18-0 in title fights, and beating very good fighters...

It's fascinating how you manage misspell the guy's username (it's Panamaniac), say you're not insulting him, while actually doing so, all in the same sentence...

People want to always rememeber Duran for quitting against Leonard in the rematch but don't want to remember how he beat Leonard in the first fight. Quitting was one of Duran's lowest points in his career but he has had tons more high points than low points.
