"Duran followers?!" Man, get a grip! When did he become a cult leader? So what if most of the civilized world agree on Duran's stature and place in boxing? Your protracted and repetitive efforts to minimize his greatness is not going to succeed, so give it a rest and get over it, already...

    • panamiac, your a joke. You cant accept my views of Duran and want to discredit them. I accept your view about duran, I have no problem with you thinking he is a all time top five. However who says we all have to side with you, especially when you can not provide any objective facts to favor him over other great fighters.

71-1 record at lightweight. Hmmm did he beat great fighters. Is his resume comparable to a leonard, whitackers, etc. Did he move up as successfully as others...Did he get ko'd at 154 by hearns....did he quit to leonard, did he lose to benitez and Hagler all by the age of 32?

I believe you want everyone to follow your views because you like him and dont want anyone to research the quality of his resumee at lightweight or compare his overall body of work to other...Cause if you do, then one will see a completley different story than what you try to portray.

Ouch pink, do you REALLY have to give it to him that badly?

        • I try to ignore him, but he acts as if because he worships the ground the Duran walks on everyone else has too. I think Duran is one of the greatest fighters ever to lace em up, but i also look at the quality of Duran when he was a lightweight, and while he may have owned the entire division for a decade...I ask many of you this,

Hopkins owned the middleweights for a about a decade
Holmes owned the heavyweights for a while
          Marciano owned the heavyweights....

Duran at lightweight with a doubt was on the greatest but does beating the fighters he beat at lightweight justify him being called a top five. Hell Chavez beat more people and better fighters, with the lone exception of leoanrd on Durans resume. However what Panamaic wants all to remember is the one out of 3 fights leoanrd and duran had. I remember all three, I only give 2 of them any airplay when discussing each fighter and their greatness, as the 3rd fight was clearly way beyound their peak.

Is if fair to say that duran who had no amateur career, and out of 70 fights at lightweight, (30 of these fights where vs boxers with either extremely poor recordd or losing records..even after he was a champion...go research boxrec for yourself....) So is it fair to simply point to the quanitity of his wins, when his resume is clearly not what fanz like panamiac will try to say it is.

Duran again is a top fighter all time, but I can not say he is greater than Whitacker, who beat much better fighters at lightweight than duran did, or Mayweather who has almost the quality of wins, but has moved up AT THE SAME AGE OF 29, had a long amateur career, and get this has 0 losses, has never been ko'd or never quit,,and Mayweather from the time he started fighting has progressivly foughten better fighters,,,you will not see fighters on his resume like on Duran's resume with records of 10-13( this was after duran was champion).

          Those are the facts.

          • Duran was the ****. Put him in the lightweight divsion now and he would beat everyone's ass. Hell he would likely be the favorite against all of the welters also including Mayweather.

            • mayweather would destroy duran...As at lightweight he was much better defensive fighter than ray was, mayweather had very very good power at lightweight, was just as fast..and duran would quit or get a tremendous ass whipping, as he did repeatedly when he stepped up in talent level, something that duran fans never discusss...hmmm 1-2 vs leonard, 0-1 stopped by hearns, 0-1 vs hagler, 0-1 vs benitez..all before the age of 32,,,and yes we still judge mayweather, dlh, mosley jones,,all fighters who moved up based on what they did in divisions north of where they started, so why ignore what duran did?

                • What if I told you of a fighter...No name,, simply a fighter who faced the same level of opposition at lightweight Duran faced. Dominated them, but most of his opposition was very subpar. Over 30 fights where vs fighters with very poor or losing records..over 30...

What if I told you that you comparing this fighter to fighters who may have only 40 professional fights, but 0 losses. They both Duran and the other fighters moved up relatively the same weight class (mayweather started out at 118 as a amateur duran had no amateur fights) at the same age 28-29.... One had 0 losses as a lightweight ,,,one had 1 loss. One moved up with 0 losses. One lost at least 4 times was ko'd and quit, all before age 32-33.

What if I told you a certain group of fans refuse to acknowledge the facts presented, just look at box rec, and want to say that I am saying things against duran, when I in fact say he is one of the greatest fighters ever, but In reality Panamiac who is refusing to accept the facts.

You point to opinions. What people think.
I am pointing to facts. He fought a very weak level of opposition at lightweight, name a all time top fighter at lightweight he beat? His greatest accomplishment is beating SRL in montreal, am I correct. This is a great accomplishment, with out a doubt. However if you consider that accomplishment then you have to consider everything else that occured during this era, correct?

If you consider everything, then you have a fighter with a record of 1-4 vs the best fighters of his era when he moved up...AS DID MAYWEATHER, DLH, MOSLEY, LEONARD, CHAVEZ, WHITACKER, TITO,,, all these fighters moved up and are reviewed based on everything. You choose to ignore the many ass whippings duran took at a very credible point in his career. However you choose to write off this era...Hmmmm

Who is being factless, me or you?
