If they are offering 0 ppv percentage, thats a joke, even if they offered him 10million (which I really doubt they offered) and 0 ppv upside, thats a joke, because Canelo has no other dance partner that will bring him a PPV that will most likely do 1m + buys.
Exactly. I'm not sure why people can't use their head and figure out this is Oscar's damage control. There's a reason why they gave up a belt and have been playing the marinating game for a year. If GBP actually WANTED to make this fight with decent terms (6m+ flat fee, 75/25 PPV split), that **** would have been made 6 months ago.

      It's a Guadalajara negotiation strategy.
It starts with you holding the title belt.
Then you call out your opponent in the ring after a big fight.
Then you give the #1 guy your belt rather than fight.
Then on the night you should be fighting that guy, but are fighting a virtual unknowni instead, you tell everyone #1 won't accept your offer, implying that he's ducking you.
Presto, You get to look tough, the haters eat it up and the other guy looks bad. LOL

      • Blind wannabe Mexicans trying to say GGG is ducking when GBP probably made a crappy offer so that GGG would decline.

You are the same people who said Manny should take the $40 mil Floyd offered because its the most he had ever made! Why would GGG take a few million because its more than any purse he has collected when there could be $50 - $100 million generated? An offer doesn't mean anything. 2x or 3x more than GGG biggest purse is 6-10 million! That could possibly leave 40-75 million for Canelo & Golden Boy. That's BS & true boxing fans know this.
$40m to Pacquiao and Floyd's event (Floyd taking the financial risk) would've needed to generate $160m on PPV for Floyd to get his own $40m.

The fact that the fight, years after the offer was made, ended up generating $450m shocked everyone (when no one near the fight was even willing to project $300m on the PPV).

Think for a moment; PPV does $200m, $100m nets out, leaving $80m to the fighters to split after the promoter's share.

Golovkin is foregoing an offer of $10m in a year's time, to take a slew of fights that likely don't get him that $10m combined (with the likely chance that Alvarez, after the terrible talks, says **** Golovkin).

Even if the fight did $100m on PPV (a ridiculous number, as even Cotto-Alvarez only ended up doing around $70m), the fighter's shares would still end up being $10m to Golovkin, $30m to Alvarez, for a 75/25 split (under the rosiest of revenue projections).

Fight matches the Cotto number, the event nets out $35m, with ~$30m available to the fighters (basically a 67/33 split on the fight).

gtfoh with that "not fair to lilG" nonsense

Why worry about GGG and being a middleweight champ when Canelo has the boxing world and the mex faN BASE and a crowd pleasing appeal all in his mex corner? Screw GGG the commie and Canelo should defend at 154lbs and clean out the division. Money is King of Boxing and Canelo can make as much fighting the other 154lbers. GGG isn't worth the risk so Canelo should tell the commie SOB to take a hike. Viva Mexico' what a HOOt
Golovkin and his camp have refused to respond to an offer for $10m, after literally only taking junk fights for his entire ten-year career. gtfoh

why not just make the fight instead of dumping belts and talking nonsense all of the time?

well see what happens but between gbp oscar and loughler i think they are all full of crap and the fighters are stuck in the middle and getting the backlash
The contract offered one interim fight each - which was the Lemieux fight for Golovkin. Golovkin was also mandated to fight the Canelo / Cotto winner if he beat Lemieux. Agreeing to fight Ward would have pretty much killed all hope of Golovkin getting Canelo / Cotto. So yeah. It wasn't designed to make life easy for Golovkin ... not saying it was designed to be turned down, after all Ward himself had a schedule and an agenda, he had to promise HBO a major opponent if he wanted a contract and with 168 dominated by Haymon fighters and with no real 'names' anyway it had to be either Kovalev or Golovkin. Hence the window for Ward - Golovkin was always vanishingly small and, IMO at least, neither side is really to blame.

Because a lot of things can change in a year. Who knows what will happen a year from now. This is nothing but a PR stunt from Canelo and GBP to save face. Lets get it on at 160 lb before the year end. Loeffler and K2 will make this fight in a heart beat. This time Canelo doesn't have anywhere to duck. No more belts to vacate.
That would be the logical next move but you can bet Canelo's camp won't go for it.
