The are 4 sanctioning bodies (WBA, WBC, IBF, WBO) recognizing 5 champions per weight class (WBA Super, WBA Regular, WBC, IBF, WBO). With 17 weight classes in boxing, that makes 85 champions. And that's before we start counting interim champions (there are currently 14), in recess champions, emeritus champions, etc. And that's before even getting into minor bodies like the IBO, IBA, etc.

85 champions in boxing. Most of the dumb****s on this forum can't even name 85 boxers. And we have 85 champions. Miguel Cotto has a point.

With that said, that is no reason to avoid the #1 MW in the world. Those are two different arguments entirely.

Seriously there are so many champions in each weight class, I couldn't tell you which title each person holds. That shyt is way too confusing. I def want to see the best vs the best but the title thing should be addressed for sure. That's way too many titles.

It's true. Cotto is spot on for their 2 be a possible 6 different champions per division is ridiculous. The fact that he almost paid over a million to fight Canelo before he even got in the ring is even more ridiculous.

In boxing the belts are losing their luster and meaning. These sanctioning bodies need to merge to create one true champion per division. This would help boxing get its credibility back where it should be.

Cotto paid Golovkin $800K so he could keep hold of the WBC belt without fighting him.

Now he's praising Canelo for relinquishing that same belt.

Cotto makes zero sense, he talks about the organisation creating different champions but what the WBC were doing would have actually make us have one champion at 160, now
hopefully every other organisation can rank a belt-holder in their rankings as well. It was ok when it benefited Miguel cotto with vacate titles etc but when he gets a bit of pressure to fight someone he didn't like it.

The WBC was very generous in granting him an opportunity to fight against Sergio Martinez, when he hadn't earned the right to, and become the only Puerto Rican in history to be a 4 division world champion. When it's his turn to pay them back, he reverts back into Kneeguel, attacks them and cries about having to fight Golovkin.

I think it's more about him taking shots at the WBC and other sanctioning bodies than it is about Canelo getting praise.
