cant help but laugh at these few wilder supporters that are hanging on. wilder has been delaying this fight for over a year so povetkin finally got frustrated enough to sign to fight wach and stay active. now the coward is using that to further delay the fight. anyone supporting him is as cowardly as he is

I understand this, but what's done is done. Lets look forward now.

Lets say Wilder doesnt fight in December. He would still have to wait till at least March/April for a showdown with Povetkin as Povetkin is fighting in November. So instead of just waiting and letting ring rust build, why not get in a stay busy fight until then? I dont see the issue.

Since he will avoid povetkin for a while he should fight tarver, arreola or mansour.

very disappointing if Wilder ducks his mandatory. One can only hope this is a bargaining tactic through the media.

I'm no Wilder defender but how can it be a duck if Povetkin has a fight scheduled in November? Let him get his fight in, Wilder get his december fight in, and both face off in March/April.

Deas and Wilder are speaking for Povetkin when they said "he won't be ready in December." It would great if Povetkin said "no, **** you guys, I'll be ready in December, make the fight."

This fight wont be as easy to make as many think. There will be a power struggle over who promotes it. According to Povetkins handlers, there are some Russian billionaire investors willing and ready to throw big money to have the fight come to Russia. Will Haymon allow that to happen if he were to lose a purse bid?

                    Real smooth!
The WBC ruled that negotiations had to start by Oct. In other words, they couldn't leave it any longer than that. Didn't mean they had to leave it till then.

Yes, you're right about that. It's not gonna be an easy fight to make with so many power brokers and egos involved. That said, Wilder stands to become a very rich guy if the purse bid (if it goes to that) goes to one of those Russian billionaires and the fight is staged in Russia. Wilder could make $5-10 million on this fight; that's payday you cannot turn down.

As to the thread topic: the silver lining on Wilder taking another 'voluntary' defense is that he's an active champion. Winning a major title (the WBC) and then defending it 3 times in one year is virtually unheard of, in today's boxing environment.

I'm a fan of Wilder's (but not a fan of him procrastinating the Povetkin fight) and it's pretty nice seeing the guy in action every 3 months.
