Lets say Wilder doesnt fight in December. He would still have to wait till at least March/April for a showdown with Povetkin as Povetkin is fighting in November. So instead of just waiting and letting ring rust build, why not get in a stay busy fight until then? I dont see the issue.

As to the thread topic: the silver lining on Wilder taking another 'voluntary' defense is that he's an active champion. Winning a major title (the WBC) and then defending it 3 times in one year is virtually unheard of, in today's boxing environment.
I'm a fan of Wilder's (but not a fan of him procrastinating the Povetkin fight) and it's pretty nice seeing the guy in action every 3 months.
