you want him to gain 8 lbs of muscle and then cut it again immediately afterwards? that's idiotic and could end his career. like ward said: "going down in weight is not an option". if he fights ward now, he has to abandon big fights with lemieux, lee and cotto/canelo. it's simply not worth it. the catchweight request is basically a way of saying "not yet - unless you are willing to make a significant concession" (which of course we all know ward isn't (nor should he, unless he is really really desperate for the fight to happen asap)). otherwise, ward has to wait in line. i think they should both stop talking about each other if they're not willing to make compromises at this time (although i'm sure the boxing media will make that difficult)

No, that would be ****** to say. It's pretty clear Golovkin's stance right now - they were willing to go up to 168 for a big money fight, since Golovkin is a middleweight and currently campaigning at middleweight. Ward isn't a big money fight so clearly the risk outweighs the reward in their opinion. They are in a position where they have a couple potential big fights at 160, being that Golovkin is mandatory to Canelo/Cotto winner. It's obvious they want to try to unify (likely against Lemieux) and then hopefully fight Canelo/Cotto after. Moving up to fight Ward now, and yes potentially losing, could mess that all up. There is no need to rush to Ward right now in their eyes given the position they're in. The risk/reward is not worth it for them at this time.
Obviously by taking this stance the whole "we'll beat everyone from 154 to 168" catch phrase takes a hit, and the haters have some new ammo to hate on Golovkin (ducking a guy a weight class above him, etc.), but as they have stated for a while now their goal is unifying 160. I wouldn't rule out a Ward fight next year however, as I've stated for months clearly Ward isn't in their plans for 2015 but if they get the fights they want I see them going after Ward in 2016 (which makes more sense anyway).Comment

... One cannot take Ward seriously...
Golovkin first called him back in 2013...
What did Ward do? He took E-Rod instead... E-Rod, doe...
... Then (on Nov. 17 2013) what did Ward say? Look: "I respect (Golovkin), but I see holes in his game. ... Ask them if they want it at 168 (pounds) right now." (NB: it was on Nov 17, 2013!!!)... Then what did Ward do? Ward retired!!!
In 2014 Golovkin called Ward again but Ward came back as late as spring 2015 to fight the dangerous Paul Smith, doe!...
... Lately Ward is talking GGG again!
... Who can take this guy seriously? You never know what he will do next in a week or a month from now...
... If Ward really wants to be taken seriously he must at least fight someone of notice and call GGG after... Fight Dirrell, fight DeGale first...
..... Golovkin will fight Froch/Chavez at 168, but not Ward
Indefensible !Comment
