Because fighter A risks losing the fight by getting caught with something that either KO's him or leads to a KO/TKO.
The loss could mean a reduction in purse the next fight, losing a a fight where a title is on the line, loss of a #1 ranking which takes them out of a title fight, or, as in the case of Meldrick Taylor, you could suffer career ending damage in addition to a career trajectory changing loss.
Now can you explain why fighter A should take that risk when a KO win and a UD win count the exact same?
Thank you.Comment

Agree. Simple, consistent enforcement of current rule-set would be a huge improvement in the game. Also, I really think the way fights are matched needs to be worked. Screw promoters keeping everything in-house, best should fight the best and earn their $$ according to what their rank/popularity are worth.Comment

Enforce the rules and the guy would immediately get disoriented and lost. Most likely he will fight for his life and the fight will spark action, thus entertainment.Comment

And lets be real, these guys don't care about seeing technical boxing, or the sweet science. Most of them preaching that crap in here are the ones who don't want to see a Lara vs Floyd fight.Comment

In Rigo's case, his promoter killed him publicly. So Rigo did just the opposite after HBO/TR let him go and he almost lost. Had he lost, he would have never gotten fights because he'd be in the "high risk, no reward" category instead of "boring".
So what would you choose-win boringly or lose excitingly?
If Rigo, Floyd, Winky are losing a fight and they continue to box instead of going balls out they are just as bad as Manny. Can't you understand that?Comment

Lets say the promoters made their agreement to pay a certain amount for the fight, then, say a KO gets another 15% of the cut, how many more guys would be content with a ud?
