Is it now safe to say that Mayweather is the greatest fighter of his generation?

    No, I meant overrated.

As time goes on people will look at Floyds record and say he beat a ridiculous amount of #1 ranked fighters, a large number of P4P fighters and a large number of HOF'ers across 5 weight classes over 20 years without losing. Add the fact he's like a 14 time world champion or something, 4 weight classes Lineal. Right or wrong, on paper his accomplishments look ridiculously impressive.

Hate or love it that's just how it's going to be. Seen it time and time again. It wouldn't suprise me if in 20 years time (hopefully I'm still around) that Mayweather is considered a Top 10 ATG.

Thinking about it now after you said that, youre probably right. Oh god i hope not. Im thinking of some other fighters now that i know were not as great as they are made to be.

To the general consensus, he sure isn't overrated today

It most definitely will. I've seen it time and time again.

Take Lennox Lewis and Ricardo Lopez as immediate examples.

And Floyd is much greater than those two, by quite a margin.

That's the thing you fail to understand you don't matter. What matters are the historians. They will look more favourably on his resume as time goes by.

True, but kinda appalling knowing that Guerrero and Canelo were in the top 10 when Floyd fought them.

Right but that won't matter, all that will matter is that he beat 7 fighters on the top 10 P4P. Insane statistic on paper.

10 fighters beaten that were ranked #1 in the divison being fought in. Insane statistic on paper.

14 (or around that number ive lost count) world champion in 5 weight classes, 4 of which Lineal. Great staticistic.

10 arguable Hall of Famers beaten. Insane statistic on paper.

These are what will be looked at down the line.

Floyd has a great resume regardless whether people want to admit that or not but on paper it looks ridiculous.

guys like Jones and Hopkins were still young and in their prime and even improving as fighters....both started as pros in the 80's though

Mayweather's generation includes guys that were born in the 1970's-early 80's Trinidad, ODLH, Mosley, Cotto, Judah, Fernando Vargas, Wladimir Klitschko, Manny Pacquaio, Ricky Hatton, etc

He has the best resume IMO of the generation....,most lineal titles, title defenses, defeated the most champions and titlists

He has nothing left to prove and is actually fighting during the infancy of a new generation that is headed by Andre Ward, Thurman, GGG, etc
Most people will agree (myself included; he's the best of his generation besides RJJ maybe) but it's mostly based on the eyeball because Floyd never took enough risks to prove it.

That's why he'll never measure up to SRL, Duran, Hagler, etc...
