    Here are multiple links:
"Floyd Mayweather is NOT interested in a fight with Cotto 2007-12-16..... Floyd gave his thought on Cotto trying to lure Floyd into a fight...... more importantly, Floyd doesn't feel the fight makes any financial sense at the moment.

WBC welterweight champ Floyd Mayweather Jr. (39-0, 25KOs) is not interested in a potential fight with WBA champ Miguel Cotto (31-0, 25KOs) of Puerto Rico, at least for now. In a recent interview with Franklin McNeil of the New Jersey Star-Ledger, Mayweather gave his thoughts on Cotto trying to lure him into a fight by revealing his strategy to win. Mayweather, as one can expect, does not agree with Cotto's fight plan. More important than that, he doesn't feel the fight makes any financial sense at the moment.

    ----------------------

Below article shows that they were ready to pursue but Floyd's team was not interested in the Cotto fight. Check out Ellerbe's excuse.

""A lot of people will be asking, 'Who is he?' " Ellerbe said. "He's a very good fighter, a warrior, but not enough people know him." - Ellerbe

"Arum said he would most likely select a March 8 opponent for Cotto in Puerto Rico if Mayweather talks fail, which could leave Mayweather feeling restrained from success again."

After beating Hatton, unbeaten champion's ill will with Arum could prevent super fight.

    -----------------------------------------

Im always patient in my career and in my life Cotto said at yesterdays press conference at Sofrito, a Puerto Rican restaurant on the East Side. If I have to be patient to fight the guy the press says is the best in the world, thats OK.

I cant fight a guy who doesnt want to face me, Cotto said.

Thats as close to trash talk as youll hear from businesslike Cotto, but his promoter, Bob Arum, was eager to attack Mayweather.

Floyd is a fraud Arum said. He will do everything to avoid a real fight.

Arums verbal assault may help get Mayweather into a ring with Cotto.

Arum has said that Mayweather is so afraid of losing his perfect record that he will not fight Cotto. Asked how Mayweather, whom Arum promoted from 1998-2006, would handle a defeat, Arum said, He would seriously have a breakdown.

Would Mayweather be able to come back from a loss?

    No Arum said flatly.

Mayweather said recently that he will not fight Cotto until he is ready to do so. This is not the first time a top contender has been forced to wait for his title shot, and it wont be the last.

    -------------------------

"He has had great victories, but when you talk about Miguel Cotto and Floyd Mayweather, Floyd always comes up with excuses -- I'm not the opponent for him, I'm not ready for him," Cotto said.

Go check out my post that is above this one. What you thought was a "Sweet Jones" homer was called back by the umpire as a foul ball.

Negotiations with Pacquiao is an exception to the rule because that was the biggest fight to be made in boxing history, even back then.
Cotto would have been 2nd only to Oscar in Floyd's career in terms of the magnitude of the fight. If there was a will from Floyd to make that fight happen, there would have been a way.

No. Enough time had not passed since Floyd left TR for them to work together.

But he was willing to work with them in 2009? Stop this girly "the wounds weren't healed doe" bull****. Business is filled with people who do deals with people they don't like. There was a lot of money to be made on both sides.

was Floyd that type of businessman at that point in his career?

Yeah Dirk, a year is a long time in business. A lot changes in 6 months to a year, you know this.

6 mos ago, Frampton and Quigg were allegedly getting ready to stage a big money fight.

Floyd avoided Manny while he was in his prime.
                Floyd: 1977-02-24
                Manny: 1978-12-17

So based on birth dates, no matter when they fought Floyd would have still been a year older than Manny. And if Manny was in his prime, then Floyd would have been in his prime as well.

                *******

So, can someone explain the logic behind those statements (I won't insult here) that one fighter can be in his prime, while the other fighter wouldn't have been, especially since their ages are so close. If either Manny or Cotto fought the younger version of Floyd that was torching his opponents, how would they have fared better, when they still got beat soundly by the old Floyd?

I mean, it sounds kind of ridiculous when someone makes these statements that obviously defy logic.
? Are you suggesting that people wanted Mayweather out of his prime to fight other fighters in their prime? The idea is that fighters going at it prime vs prime is more telling than not prime vs not prime. To be clear, I'm not saying Cotto or Pac would have won at a different time necessarily.

Also, it's not as though people are suggesting Mayweather knew in advance that when another fighter fell out of their prime that he'd still have it. I think instead, they are saying that Floyd would not have ever taken the fights if he was not at some point the clear favorite.

EDIT: Also prime isn't just about age... but won't get into that. I think we all knew that.

Yes, for the biggest fight in boxing history. Big difference. Cotto was not even close to Pacquiao in terms of popularity.

Frampton and Quigg had negotiations but didn't come to an agreement.

Floyd refused to enter negotiations with Cotto and just retired. I don't see how that is a relevant example but ok.....

I don't see Floyd's mood swings about working with Bob as an excuse for why the fight didn't happen.

At that time, Cotto was NOT bigger than Pacquiao. Not even close. Cotto was as big as Shane Mosley. Actually, some could rightfully argue that Mosley was even bigger than Cotto.
