GGG needed time to his raise his profile and Ward needed to get back into the ring and do something to make people remember who he was.

So GGG is much better known now than he was a year ago, and Ward is fighting next weekend, but at LHW, not SMW, and Iskowitch at Roc is saying that Ward vs Kovalev is just as likely as Ward vs GGG.

So now, I guess, HBO need to hedge their bets and get people thinking about Ward vs Kovalev in case that's the way Andre decides to go after he fights Smith.
We can agree to disagree about why they didn't make it. I think they had thoughts of Rigo/Nonito in their heads and didn't want a repeat of that scenario.

Ok, I can understand that point but why does a fight between two quality opponents need to only be on PPV? Not every fighter is a PPV star and HBO had a history of putting great fights like this on regular HBO.

As I said in my initial post in this thread I hope all the back and forth is a precursor to the fight being made.

When one of the fighters thinks he is worth PPV money and will not accept that after 2 years of total inactivity, he is no longer the A side of any major fight and has to accept B side money. Ward was asking $2 million and more for his TUNE UP FIGHTS!!! Do you think he will accept 500k or 650k to be the B side in a GGG fight?

HBO cannot and will not pay out close to $10 million in purse money for a regular broadcast fight. No network will. That is PPV money. And unless someone like Roc Nation decides to step up with the dollars, this fight will not happen until HBO decides it is worth a PPV.

              huh?

they fought in new jersey, which is 3000 miles or so from where ward lives and trains.

when they fought in AC, you saw all you'd need to see. one fighter was better than the other. just look at froch's face after the fight. he was embarrassed.

Hopefully HBO and all involved make the fight.

BTW I love your video chip of Barrera and Morales. Damn that Morales is one hard dude. He gets sucker punched and then just returns fire like a crazed animal with the sucker punch doing nothing to him. Morales is the Man.

I am not arguing a or b side, GGG as of now appears to be the a side to me. Why would Ward have to take so little?

I understand your points about the purses.

Mmmm ... I think this is where I say that it was actually quite a close fight, with Andre winning by a couple of points and Froch coming on strong at the end.

Oh yeah ... and Atlantic City is in the USA, and Ward is American, which means that he had home advantage.

                    Did I remember that correctly?
