He initially took things to too clean an point, but he's found about where the masses are fine with.
Sprite and Oscar Mayer aren't going to advertise on a sport that is known for serious brain injuries and deaths either. That is something that people have to understand as well. In today's world, even hockey is being made kid friendly in the lower leagues with no body checking and limited contact. Kid's football is going in the direction of flag football and limited contact due to the publicity head injuries are getting. The world is moving away from violent contact sports, not towards them. This is why the majority of advertisers for boxing and MMA events tend to be geared to adult products such as beer and other alcohol products.

    Boxing is not family entertainment.

Exactly, and they shouldn't try to present it as something it's obviously not. I get that there are certain lines you can't cross on network TV, but they can definitely push the envelope, because there are shows all the damn time on network TV that do just that, and that aren't "family friendly".

We see motherf**kers get knocked unconscious in boxing, no matter how much they try to dress it up as clean, what can possibly happen inside the ring supersedes anything they try to do as far as "cleaning it up" outside the ring.

The thing that's truly unfortunate is that he will never agree to work with Top Rank and HBO, which means the "cold war" is going to last a very long time. And yet there are still morons who will support a guy like this.
Why are you so sure that Haymon is the one that doesn't wanna do business with HBO and Top Rank and not the other way around? Sometimes he does good match ups Broner Porter for instance, Peterson Garcia, Guerrero Thurman, Degale Dirrell and so on and people watched all these fights for free, and when the fighyers are not fighting top fighters he's at least keeping them busy wuth tune ups to keep them in shape, u can't fight A level opposition all the time.

If Haymon really wanted to make an impact and take over the sport, he should have bought and created his own network dedicated solely to boxing!

I've said it numerous times..... The one thing that's hurting PBC and its ratings is how unorganized it is. Having its shows on different networks on different days and during different time slots makes it difficult for the average and casual fan to keep track of. If it wasn't for the fact that I frequent this site, I wouldn't even know when they have a show coming up, nor would I know what channel its on or at what time. It's not like HBO where when there's a fight its pretty much guaranteed to be taking place on a Sat evening between 9-10pm.

Another problem he has is the fact that he doesn't have any real stars. He has over 250 fighters but maybe 5 are known amongst casuals. I wouldn't even count Floyd because Floyd doesn't fight on or represent PBC. Haymon should have used Floyd to help build the PBC brand.

I would reduce the number of voices on TV.

I would make sure to reward winners with fights that advance their careers by utilizing the Transitional Boxing Board's rankings to make fights. So Thurman would not go from Ghost to Collazo. He'd be fighting Maidana, khan, Brook or Bradley(I know TR) next.

I would setup a round robin tournament of fighters at 122 and 126 and put it exclusively on PBC. Leo, Mares, Rigo, Frampton, Russell and Gonzalez and others. Pick names and go.

I would give any and every fighter, regardless of affiliation, a chance to fight in either of the above. Make a real effort to get fights made. If another promoter turns you down, so be it. SHow you are willing to eliminate the politics.

Balance the cards-make sure the headlining fight is one we want to see and make sure you use the undercards to build prospects or give guys their "easy stay busy" fight.

PBC needs to start making more of these types of fights if it's to capture the attention of casuals.
I think the common theme behind the ratings is that they had at least one popular established star, two of them were PPV fighters.

Canelo-Kirkland and Cotto-Geale weren't mismatches on paper, but they turned out that way (unlike the other two which were mismatches turning out competitive).

Proctor&Gamble (Gillette, Tide, Oral-B, etc) seem comfortable enough, with the way that Haymon is looking to present boxing, to advertise their products on PBC.

You're never going to see the Gerber Children's Fund advertise on PBC, but if you've got a product that is marketed towards that 18-54 audience demographic, the PBC broadcasts might be a platform to consider.

I don't know where you saw those advertisements on a PBC show, but you seem to be the only one. I have seen only one major sponsor and that is Corona. All the other ads I have seen are either promos for upcoming PBC cards or local advertising and the revenue of local ads goes to the local station affiliate, not the network. I have not noticed anyone else posting that they have seen these ads during a PBC show either.

                    - Consistent network with/or time slots casuals and hardcore fans can keep up with.

                    - Matchmaking. I understand the whole "build up a fighter" thing but it's getting out of hand. There haven't been any impressive fights associated with PBC for it to make any noise. I would think a "businessman" would have started off by pulling viewers in. Haymon and his handlers did not. I thought this was an opportunity to step away from some of the politics and put on better fights.

                    - Ring entrance. Allow the traditional ring walk with their team or at least their head trainer.

                    - The commentators should be better. When you have bad match ups and average commentators, there is a high chance the channel will be changed.

I've always felt when something new is added to a sport, high emphasis should be on listening to their viewers and feedback from hardcore fans. Allegations of PBC running through $140+ mill is head scratching but again, I don't know the logistics. Overall, PBC does not keep my attention.
