Comments Thread For: Hearn: I Spoke To Froch, He's Interested in Golovkin

I'd rather see it in the UK where it would generate more buzz and be more celebrated, however there's more money for it the US. If they put it on UK time in the UK, they're pretty much passing up on the US money. HBO might pay $4mill at most for an afternoon fight. Same time there's less expenses to put it in Vegas. MGM would pay a couple mill for site fee. Wembly costs nearly $800k to rent and another $6mill for labor & equipment (something MGM would provide). And how confident are they Golovkin/Froch sells tickets like Groves/Froch II?Comment

Hearn's main concern is where there will be more money for him, as in Matchroom and by association Sky with whom he has a deal. Only way I could see it going to the US is if Froch pushes him on the Vegas venue.I'd rather see it in the UK where it would generate more buzz and be more celebrated, however there's more money for it the US. Not sure how confident they are of selling out Wembley or even if Hearn was serious. It didn't seem like a Wembley fight to me, but who knows what kind of buzz it could generate if they add fighters to the card (particularly if it's DeGale/Groves).
I can understand US fans wanting it over there, but from memory there was a decent buzz in the US for Golovkin-Murray and that was in Monaco so it's not a fight I see flying under the radar or the US fans missing out on.Last edited by Weebler I; 05-21-2015, 09:10 AM.Comment

Correct me if I'm mistaken, but boxing is a major sport in the UK? Meaning more boxing fans as opposed to casuals. My point is that perhaps it is not out of the question for Froch-GGG to sell out a big venue, maybe not Wembley's 80k (unless a strong co-main is added), but somewhere with maybe 50k-60k? Keeping in mind that a strong co-main means that the money for the headliners might be a little less due to thatComment

...but there is no money in that fight doe.
...but he needs to clean up 160 before moving up doe.
...but why does not Froch moves up and fights xxxx doe.
...but Froch has Ward problems doe.
...but he needs to fight Floyd, Cotto and Canelo first doe.
...but he is a "small" framed MW doe.
....on and on and on and on......

It's a niche sport really, but fans will turn out for a big fight if it's well promoted.Correct me if I'm mistaken, but boxing is a major sport in the UK? Froch is the biggest name in UK boxing right now so he could probably sell 50k against many legit opponents but Wembley is obviously 80k so it all depends on how it's promoted and maybe who else would be on the card.Last edited by Weebler I; 05-21-2015, 02:32 PM.Comment

In terms of who he has fought, there are not many who can match that in recent history. He's literally fought everyone in his generation that he could at 168lbs. And even started on the next generation with Groves.I that couldy pond water has clouded your judgment.
Since been completely dominated by Andre Ward, he has fought Bute, Yusef Mach, Kesler coming out of retirement, Groves, Groves.
The Groves things I am sure is impressive for you brits as its your own super fight on the island, but completely irrelevant in terms of the actual landscape of the division.
Now he suddenly has the best resume in recent history?
We all still know Andre Ward is the best in the division, and would school Froch in a rematch again, as would Andre Dirrell most likely.
I respect Froch, he has massive balls, and puts them where his mouth is, but he is not skilled, he is a tough guy in a division that is fairly weak at the moment, and has managed to out tought all of the guys without the pedigree of Ward, Golovkin, Dirrell, etc...
Kudos to him for making it entertaining, but thats all it really was.Comment
