Valentin still had 25 plus losses over Jorge, in fact you can say Romero was a novice and this was when Leo was still considered a prospect himself. Add to the fact that Roman fought such an atrocious opponent just this year, keep in mind this is the man many claim to be top five pound for pound. No matter how you flip it or put it, that's a horrible note.

Records may not mean much when fighters carve out a name for themselves as gatekeepers or sturdy journeymen to test prospects, but not when facing a 3 division world champion who's considerd amongst the elite. Tell me, what has Valentin done to place him amongst the names you mentioned? Atleast Rogers and Boone tested their opponents with their power, what exactly did Roman gain from beating Leon down?

So you're telling me you're better off watching a pound for pound world talent beat down overmatched opponents simply because they drive buses and not taxis? Wow, massive step up I see.

I was hoping for Estrada or even Viloria, but this is a significant step down.

Segura is finished! He he went on a nice streak after getting stopped by Viloria, but then he got pummeled by Estrada in a horribly one sided affair.

Segura has a lot of heart but he is going to get seriously hurt in this bout.

First off, I don't consider Roman a top p4p fighter. He gained money obviously...I'm saying based off his skill set nobody would give him problems in the flyweight div. there are 3 boxers in the hypothetical p4p list worth mentioning PBF, Wladamir, and Rigo. Gonzalez has the talent to one day be considered just look at his amateur record 81-1 which translating really well for him in the pro ranks. There is a reason there Is hype behind Gonzalez even more so than Golovkin.

OK, I actually had to register to defend Roman Gonzalez because no one has the knowledge to defend him. Firstly, he kicked Estradas ass, it wasn't close. Second, He just fought the # 4 contender and kicked his ass as well. Everyone is blaming him for fighting Valentin Leon when it wasn't even a title fight. He fought in Nicaragua, a place where he hadn't fought in years. This guy fights four times a year and I think he deserves to fight in his country every once in a while.

Amnat is landing those fights constantly and has been facing excellent opposition for his last 4 or 5 fights now with under 20 wins in his record. He may be in his mid thirties, but a win over him would truly solidify Roman as the best in the division, without doubt.
Aztekkas my brother, always dropping that deep knowledge. You have to know that this one wouldn't happen because Gonzalez would never be able to make the IBF's 10 pound rehydration rule the day of the fight. He rehydrated twelve pounds for the Sosa fight.

You guys are mentioning Kazuto Ioka, a man who ducked Gonzalez at 108, Ruenroeng a guy who is unknown with some good wins, Viloria the guy who decided to fight Estrada instead of chocolatito and youre blaming it on Chocolatito? Edgar Sosa is a good win, he is a former champion, and has big names on his resume, its just that Roman is on another level. You are complaining about Segura when its not even official. Segura may not be the toughest fight, but hes a two different weigh class champion, a top ten contender, and has the type of power that Gonzalez has not really faced yet. Shameful is Estrada struggling to beat Joebert Alvarez, that's whats shameful.

On May 26, 1951, Sugar Ray Robinson (124(81)-1-2) fought Jean Wanes (24(1)-33(11)-11). Keep in mind that this was a year in which Sugar Ray Robinson won the Ring Magazine fighter of the year. On November 14, 1944, Joe Louis (53(45)-1(1)-0) fought Johnny Davis (3(1)-3(3)-0). This fight happened at the height of Joe Louis's heavyweight title reign. He had just won his fourth Ring fighter of the year in 1941. With that being said, stop lying to yourselves and acting like boxing hasn't had it's fair share of gross mismatches involving great fighters. Not every fight can be elite champion vs. elite champion. Let's pose the situation in which Roman Gonzalez were to fight Estrada and Inoue this year. If he were to beat both of them by years end on HBO, where would he go from there? Not a single person would care about any Gonzalez fight made after that. The only possible thing left would be a bunch of fans crying about how he needs to step up and fight Rigondeaux. At the end of the day, the Segura fight makes business sense for HBO to be able to promote the Gonzalez vs. Estrada rematch down the road. A often used promotion technique is to toss around common opponents for the sake of debate to hype the fight. Say whatever you want, but this is all part of the business of boxing.

It was a good fight, but it wasn't particularly close. No case for Estrada winning it at all. 8/4, 9/3ish.

Not the best fight they could have gone with, but decent. HBO obviously trying to build more momentum for Gonzalez hype train.

Segura is still top 10 (as was Sosa btw despite the claims of him being a terrible opponent).

Needs to be top 5 next though. There's some awesome fights waiting to be made.

Sosa probably there because of beating Segura.

A lot of those little guys are very overrated IMO. Segura made his name by beating a shot Calderon. Viloria then made his name by beating Segura. In my eyes Viloria is one of the most overrated fighters in modern times, the fact some people had him on their P4P list is a joke.

As for Gonzalez fighting Segura. I don't want to see that. Estrada just knocked him out.
