    • Clinching is a part of boxing. The only time it is brought up is when Froch, Kessler or Pac fans need a reason to cry about their favorite fighters being inferior to Floyd and Ward.

        • But you could have refs like Kenny Bayless who favors you know who and could end up warning/deducting points from the fighter retaliating instead of the one who originally broke the rules.

          Naaa mean?

          • AGAIN! And I will keep posting it everytime somebody bump this thread...Back in Jack Johnson and Jim Jefferies days ref did not break, fighters would have to FIGHT OUT

            Pep and Saddler:

Now guys just stare at the refs and wait for rescue so they won't have to fight inside

No new rules are coming so that your favorite fighter can have a better chance at beating guys who uses tactics like clinching so it is up to them to get better on the inside and come up with their own gameplan to deal with that style. Kell Brook did it vs Porter and beat him at his own game!

            • I think the problem is in the process of breaking the clinch and separating the fighters. So many refs just do it automatically as soon as the clinch happens.

You have to be biased or out of your mind not to see how that process kills inside fighters. When you are a shorter fighter and need a certain range to be effective, you have to put a lot of work in chasing down your opponent, cutting the ring off, going through their range to get to yours. When you corner them, get inside, and they instantly grab you followed by the ref pushing you 5 feet away from the guy, and that is considered NORMAL, you are ****ed as a fighter. You are creating a handicap in favor of guys with reach and movement (who already have enough natural advantage) by destroying the ability of the infighter to fight HIS fight.

I agree with what some people are saying, make the guys work their own way out. Try to physically unclinch the arms without separating the fighters if you need to, and if they persist then you will have the mandate to take points that isn't there when you auto-break them.

how about some pushing? or some hitting in the back of the head or some kidney punches? I mean if the other person is gonna implement illegal tactics...why not fight fire with fire?? and let the other fighter pay the price for his tactics or he will stop doing it.....or better yet the ref would maybe start doing his job........
                anyone???

Only the last part of your comment was relevant. The judges when making their scores should take into consideration the clinching and make a mental note of it, if the referee didn't. Refs are not perfect and may want to protect a fighter, so its up to the judges to educate the refs.

                • About time this de****able violation in boxing is brought into the forefront. Fans need to express their disgust over it when they see it. If you're near the ringside, throw your leftovers, crumpled paper, anything that would attract attention. It's okay to ignore it occasionally, but if it's done excessively, it's no longer skill the hugger is applying. He's cheating.

And let's call it as it is. CHEATING, aided by the ref.

                    • Usually the people that complain are fans of fighters that are so one dimensional and incapable of adjusting to it.
