I know, but a lot of sports once dominated by USA are no longer, eventually it will shift completely. Also when you consider the population of USA compared to other countries where sports are a big part of popular culture, then you should be topping olympic charts.
China and Russia are usually up there with you in the medals tables but they are not involved in anywhere near as many sports from a grassroots level as USA. Also Britain was only 3rd place in the last olympics medal table yet the population is around 6 times smaller. You would need like 4 or 5 countries from europe like the UK, France, Germany, Italy, Spain to make up the population of USA and then if they grouped that population together, i'm sure USA couldn't dominate the medals chart. Infact last Olympics if you had the UK and Germany combined, it would have been still 3x less in population than USA but more medals...so it does make a difference. It's not that USA are better athletes, its simply a case of population + sport promoted from a young grassroots level.
