That's not true when it comes to boxing though.

There aint that many Americans dominating boxing and there's not that many really good American fighters these days, so the ones that actually are good should have more support but they don't. Andre Ward is by far the best American fighter from say between Middleweight up to Heavyweight. He has no competition with other American fighters between those weight classes, there would be nobody worth following that much but he still can't gain any popularity.

That's more to do with his style and lack of character and personality. Plenty of fighters had no problems gaining a fans in the past when there was even more competition and other sports were always strong. He should look at himself really for the reason.

That is a reflection of America as a whole. A Canadian comic did a great series about talking to Americans a few years ago and it is incredible how dense so many of them really are. And I am not talking about uneducated people either. This goes right up the chain from average folk to politicians and University professors. Here is part one, you can find the rest easy enough if you want a few great laughs.

That's why I said Americans athletes, America is a place for boxing where there isn't nationality biase as much as other places, can you imagine any other country where they root for the foreigner? I can't imagine that happening in the UK that much, not saying it cannot happen but it's very rare.

It's a broad range of sports too not just cricket and soccer, you have swimming, tennis, golf, football, baseball, soccer, track and field, basketball.

College actually costs $$$ in America, why do you think these European amateurs don't turn pro until they're old? College is so affordable in Europe compared to America, and that alone is a huge reason why you don't see any old American amateur boxers. It's also a huge reason why there are 100+ million children playing sports in America, trying to get a free education.

My girlfriend is Korean and their outlook on sport as a chosen career is very different.

Americans once dominated Athletics, or sprinting anyway, which is a worldwide sport but now Jamaica dominate sprinting and long distance is usually dominated by African nations. Soccer is played worldwide but is usually dominated by European and South American nations. Boxing is a worldwide sport which is represented in the fact there is champions from all over the world.

So in what worldwide sports does America excel? I can't think of any except Basketball.

have you ever watched these things?

That reminds me. I once dated a girl from Long Beach, California who was living here in London and i told her that all animals like dogs in movies were actually not real and all remote controlled. She just accepted it.

He's wrong of course. British fans get behind their boxers the same way they get behind all their sportsmen. It's the same with most countries. Especially when compared to American fans.

The way he mentions soccer (ar football as all non-females call it) like something casual thing, sums up how off the mark he is. He couldn't imagine how big football is over here, it's like a religion. There is no comparison to football in the sports world, support wise. The majority of football fans won't follow any other sport as football takes up most of their time.
If they do, then as he mentioned they may watch cricket. Then darts, F1, tennis, Ruby league, rugby union, the UFC has a big following.
If people are looking for an alternative, boxing is way down the list.

British fans don't get behind their boxers because of having no other sports to follow, or a smaller pool of fighters to support. It's because they're passionate about their sport.

Ward and Hill will always be bitter that fighters Ward has beat (and beat easily), have more fans and interest than he does. He always seems to be trying to mask that. Hence his latest comments.
He should just let it go. It will always be that way. Take the win and be happy with that. The reason you haven't got many fans isn't because of sport teams in your area..it's because your fight are dull.
