As an athlete you can tell yourself your the best in the current contenders in your time, but to anoint yourself you better than others that's blasphemy. You are rated by your performance in your pro career.

I can say I'm the greatest in my chosen profession let's say boxing, but it won't hold any bearing, coz boxing fans and boxing analyst, historians that are fans too are the ones who anoints who they think is the greatest. No fighter can dictate that.

accolades can go along way, but rating different era's of fighters are rated by boxing historians and fans who gets the majority of the vote.

Key word 'MAJORITY' - Floyd is no where near majority..

Floyd wears this attitude like a bullet proof vest, and you can't hold that against him. He holds a strong mental disposition for what he does. And he is truly an all time great boxer.

That said; no fighter from this era can compare themselves to a fighter like Ray Robinson. It will ALWAYS be disingenuous.

Back in those days, decades before the sport had the type of safety measures in place that it does now, guys like Ray Robinson fought every week.

If Floyd, Manny, or really anyone you want to name fought the way they used to (more rounds, smaller gloves, more frequently, less money, less assurance, etc. etc.) they would not look nearly as photogenic as they currently do and they would all have more losses. They wouldn't have as much money either.
