The point is that Ward has actually been paid 2m for the Rodriguez fight. It's not his fault that HBO overpaid him. Golovkin can't ask for that because he's never even earned a millionComment

You need to get some sleep cause you can't follow a thread. You said but they accept Munson Jr. Well, it'll cost them half as much, and probably do better ratings. If they paid Ward once 2m for a tuneup, doesn't mean they have to again. Its good to learn from mistakes, something you should think about especiallyComment

They don't want to pay big name prices for a bottom rung fight. IF Ward offered to fight for $350K for a tune up, which is around what it is worth, I'm sure HBO would gladly accept the fight and put it on the undercard of, say the upcoming Golovkin fight. But then there would be a problem of getting Ward to fight outside of his Oakland comfort zone with his handpicked officials.
So many obstacles to putting a Ward fight on television that it is not funny. But that is what happens when you have a fighter returning from a long layoff who still thinks he is the king of the roost when he is really just another chick in the coop.Comment

That's not the point. The two situations are different. Golovkin is in high demand and he's the one bringing in the ratings consistently. He's also a lot cheaper which gives them more breathing room. Oosthuizen isn't a bad choice for a tune-up, Ward did fight Edwin Rodriguez after all, but he's not in a position where he can just demand a tune up fight and get $2M for it when he's been out of the sport for 1.5 years.
If Ward was in GGG's shoes, fighting often, at a smaller cost, and being in demand, I could definitely see them approving Oosthuizen as an opponent.
I'd love to see Ward fighting again but he's put himself in a difficult situation.Comment
