The CORRECT assessment of the Lewis/Vitali fight is...

    A NEAR-PRIME LENNOX LEWIS defeated a PRE-PRIME VITALI KLITSCHKO!

The best performance of Lennox Lewis ever was imo the second Rahman fight, his 3rd to last. We are talking like a year and a half later and Lewis, whilst only 5lbs heftier than his usual fighting weight, only just over 250lbs, was still in GREAT CONDITION! Anybody trying to excuse Lennox short-comings by claiming he was "fat" is a ****in idiot!

Truth is, the Lennox Lewis who fought Vitali, was one of the heftiest (=most power, most chin, most resistance) versions of LEnnox ever and THE most experienced version with the IQ of all of his fights behind him.

And Lewis fought one of the best fights against Vitali visually as well. You can point at nothing in Lewis's performance that can detract from him at all, other than the fact that, for the first time, he had met someone that could punch the utter snot out of him.

And the following is also a consideration that ALL nutbags seem to overlook...

"Had Lennox Lewis come in much LIGHTER vs Vitali... I believe he would have been knocked out in round 2 or 3. His weight was imo what allowed him to even survive long enough to be able to cut Vitali.

    Keep trolling Landa!
the correct assessment is you need help in comprehending reality. also lewis was 37(almost 38) not 36. there you go again shaving off years/adding years to make people look better/worse to suit your agenda.

He wasn't shot, but he was unmotivated and out of shape.

Nah, I'm pretty sure I have this one right.

Yeah I made a mistake by a year, doesn't matter. 37 is still around physical prime for a HW boxer of the style and background of VK.

        Everybody knows it!

Vitali retired Lewis. That is a fact!

Well he wasnt prime. How far from prime he was is obviously hard to tell. What isn't hard to tell is that he got a lucky escape.

That cut did come a little early in the fight, so Vitali was unlucky.

Lewis was very slow that evening, and he was tired and done when the fight was called. Still, he did legit beat Vitali, TKO on cuts still counts.

Of course Lenox was past prime and out of shape. And even if he wanted to fight Vitali, his cut would've taken the better part of a year to heal, so not like it could've happened anyway. Lenox wasn't waiting that long at his age.

Vitali only looked good because Lewis had prepared to fight Kirk Johnson.

Physically Lewis as still maybe 90%, 37 isn't that old for a HW but once he beat Tyson he had nothing left and mentally he had retired. He didn't prepare for the Vitali fight properly and it showed in the ring.

                  Thinly veiled troll post!

LEwis was fast that evening, he personally performed very well. That statement was false. He was tired because he got smashed.

He did legit win, that's true.

Age wise he was near prime, condition wise he was near prime. His weight was nothing drastic, he was trained already for top-contender Johnson so no excuses.

Last statement was the worst. Lewis used the excuse that he didn't want to fight Vitali even BEFORE the Johnson fight, that he wanted clearance for his eye first, to which Vitali responded...

"All of the doctors have given me clearance... Lewis is ducking me now!"

                  Vitali destroys Johnson...

                  Lewis retires.

                  After promising rematch.

On the contrary, even though the fight was a technical loss for Vitali, I've never seen another instance in the 150 years of boxing where a passing of the torch has been done in such style! VK basically had the other boxer running for cover.

I think it's safe to say he wasn't the same boxer he was even 5-y ears before that. I also think it's safe to say Vitali was whooping his ass for the majority of those six rounds. It only takes one punch to cut someone, and a doctor to stop the fight. I made a thread about this. Klitschko was dominating up to the stoppage. But Lewis was def a shell of his former self.

According to idiots on here, being ahead on the scorecards 58-56 is "dominating".
