So there you go, a guy who has been an adviser since Vernon Forrest has had 2 guys get paydays at slightly over a million dollars and it still took a Floyd PPV to even make that possible. So great for the fighters... In the meantime Cotto, Chavez Jr, Bradley and Manny all become multi-millionaires with Top Rank while enhancing their legacy (with the exception of Chavez but that's because he is a b*tch and not his promoters fault.)

Lots of ignorance... The following guys have all received million dollar paydays, most of them more than once, while managed by Haymon: Berto, Maidana, Broner, Trout, Guerrero, Khan, Lara, Garcia, Malignaggi, Edwin Rodriguez, Matthysse, Paul Williams, Devon Alexander, and maybe another fighter or two that's missing.

      • Most people on NSB that don't like AL Haymon pretend its because of the recent string of mismatches he has put on TV. Those same posters never felt this way about any other manager or promoter that put on mismatches, especially when they were on HBO.

Its obvious the real reason why people hate Haymon and the fact he worked his way to being the most powerful person in the sport-but we can keep pretending its because he is "damaging" boxing.

How many of those guys were under Haymon at the time? And still the point stands that those guys all hit the roof at a million with no legacy to be proud of. Haymon is the easy way out for fighters, is it not surprising that Chavez and Mikey Garcia are leaving Top Rank? Both of them have stated they don't love the sport, they're doing it for the money. That's fine, but you expect them to test themselves?

Chavez ran away from $18 million over 2 or 3 fights (that's triple what Haymon has paid anyone) fighting GGG and Froch. Garcia is trying to leave Top Rank because they want to match him up with Gamboa which would have made him his biggest payday. And Quillon just turned down 1.4 million and lost his title to... who knows what.

          • If Don King was so bad, why did so many guys sign with him. If Arum was so bad why did so many guys sign with him? At the time, of course, these guys musta seemed like the best deal for those who signed with them, just as Haymon might currently. Doesn't necessarily make it so.

Whichever way you look at it, however, anyone who's convinced themselves that Haymons motivation is anything other than making the most money that he can is hopelessly naive.

I know the standard argument that Uncle Al's somehow rewritten the rulebook to make more money whilst somehow being the fighters' best friend, but all I can say is that I guess time will tell.

IDK...IMO there's no real way of saying just how good or bad Haymon is at this point, though the various mismatches and numerous other controversies surrounding Haymon fighters, particularly over the last 12 months, don't paint a particularly favourable picture to me.

Newsflash -- every single one of them were under Haymon when they made those million dollar plus paydays! Every last one of them.

Allegedly Chavez Jr. ran away from $18 million. But according to Chavez Jr, the alleged offers did NOT take place and are all lies. Even Cotto called Arum out in the past about fictitious offers and whatnot. So take from that what it's worth. You can argue about legacy and competitive match-ups all you want, but you cannot sit here and say that Haymon didn't get lots of fighters million dollar paydays. That is incorrect. It is a fact that he got lots of fighters million dollar paydays.

                • People tend to misconstrue what is good and bad. Al Haymon is good for FIGHTERS, not necessarily for fans. His job is to get his fighters paid, which he does very well. He won't put his best against one another to the detriment of fans that want to see great competitive bouts. That's not his job, bbut it is our right to have an issue with it.

TBH, while I don't like what Haymon does I hold no issue with it, it's his job. I blame the networks who have accepted so many overpriced fights with Haymon fighters all these years and set the precedent.

why do you think Haymon is judged on NSB by the worst matchups he makes while other promoters/managers are judged by the best matches they make?
