I think it's safe to say, Mayweather has probably the best defence in boxing history

Yeah, yeah we all know it's Floyd.

    Who cares!

    The guy wont even fight!

His very best defence is his "ducking" ability.

Not biased at all, Pernall is my favourite fighter ever.

When he wasn't showboating he was equally/ or harder to hit than Mayweather, the issue is he showboated a lot and hit the canvas as a result.

This is why it's insanely difficult to say who was the greatest defensive fighter ever.
        This is a great post.

I think he is a great defender, but gets overrated in terms of historic ranking..

Anytime floyd fought a true top caliber guy, he got tagged...

            Zab
            Oscar
            Cotto
            Castillo
            Maidana

All seemed to hit him pretty easily

He is an all time great defender but i wouldn't say he is the goat defender..

I highly doubt floyd could come in fat and 40 pounds past his prime fighting weight and be able to compete with froch, ggg, ward, kovolev, unlike james toney who's incredible defense allowed him much success even when fat and way up in weight..

You can't possibly tell me that floyd is a better defender than prime roy jones who beat two ATG fighters in their prime and didn't get touched..

I would too... Pernell was a great defender, but he mixed it up a lot more than floyd, and in the process got tagged a lot... Floyd was much more composed, and didn't take the risks in the ring that sweet pea did.. Pernell would stand toe 2 toe a lot, and it would allow guys to tag him

Yeah i believe Floyd has the best defense in the history of boxing.

That style is called "Don't be in the ring with an opponent who has a chance to beat you" no other defensive skills can beat that style

I definitely think statically he is probably the best.

Pure defense, just within the past decade I'd say Clottey....nothing got through that shell...nothing really came out but that's another story.

Toney Winky are at least comparable in my adult life. Benitez, Witaker, Pep, Locche...he's up there but I find it hard to say his defense is better than all of them considering how much he's been tagged by unconventional fighters and southpaws that others dealt with better IMO.
