I think it's safe to say, Mayweather has probably the best defence in boxing history

Don't forget Judah dropped him and was tagging his arse with left hands repeatedly for the first four rounds until he faded like he always does.
I would be inclined to say that what it proves, more than Floyd having not-so-great defense...Is that his offense is a stronger component of his aresenal than his defense. I don't think the issue is him getting tagged a bit either, it is what he relies upon to win the fight.

His defense is great...not the best
Floyd definitely is up there but I really don't think he has the best defense in boxing history. Maybe he has the most dependable defense stretched out through his career but there is a difference between having the best defense and being the most careful. Floyd uses his legs, controls the pace, and range all surmounting in a great defense. But with guys like James Toney, Duran, Floyd Patterson and early Tyson they could and would fight in the pocket all night long. Floyd can fight in the pocket pretty good but he can't do that all night in the ring. And he shouldn't have to. Some fighters are more durable then others and that's just fact. Floyd obviously doesn't think it's in his best interest to show case his talent in the form of inside fighting. Most likely because he's not built for it. But let's get something straight.....the best defense goes to the guys who fight the harder fight(inside fighting) and still slip punches like no ones business.

If you say his defense is the greatest in boxing history, then you would have to make the argument that Maidana is one of the greatest punchers of all time for him to land on Mayweather 221 times in their first fight.
As boxing fans, we want to believe our sport is still thriving, but it's not, it's in decline.

He is however very good at making planted punchers like Canelo look foolish.
