Excellent post here. Pea is the greatest defensive fighter, EVER. You couldn't even consistently hit him with a jab or too the body, cleanly. With Floyd, he gets hit more than Whitaker did. He is susceptible to a good jab and to the body. He's been hit by lesser fighters too often to be considered the greatest defender. Pea did it against the very best in boxing.

Mayweather has better raw physical gifts, Whitaker was the better technician. It's really that simple.
Not to say that Mayweather is purely an athlete or Whitaker was some lumbering oaf who got by solely on brains, 'cause that's obviously not the case, just that Mayweather can get away with things few others have ever been able to due to his foot [and hand] speed in conjunction with his understanding of the game. Sweet Pea was a hell of an athlete, but not quite on Mayweather's level, but i think he understood the game better.

Foot-speed?? What foot speed? Floyd is a lateral defender who depends on his superior reflexes to block punches. He is not a runner as some say. Floyd has never had the best legs, anyway. Whitaker's legs where GOLDEN. To say that Floyd is a better athlete isn't true, man. Whitaker had some of the best feet/legs in history. Floyd does not. He cannot bend to the canvas like Pea used to do in front of his opponents. No way. He's not as nimble as Whitaker was. Manny is a better athelete than Floyd as well. If they ever fought, you would see that right away.

You should ask someone who has no general opinion on Floyd or Pernell or Toney.

Ask a casual who's never watched boxing to look at each of their fights. They would give the most accurate answer.
