Do People Forget Cotto Calls The Shots Against Canelo?

I'm not criticising Canelo. All I'm saying is that Cotto has the leverage, and I don't see Cotto relinquishing that leverage by fighting in Vegas.

May 5th is out of the question for a number of reasons. Cotto is just one of the reasons. The other huge reason is Mayweather. If Pacquaio wanted that date, he'd have a chance. Anyone else not named Pacquaio is only dreaming.

Cotto is going to give all the dreamers a rude awakening when they start seeing his demands and how he throws all of their assumptions in the trash can.

I didn't mean 'more lucrative' than the Canelo fight. So my fault if I wrote 'more'. I just meant he has other lucrative options, fights where he can make solid cash outside of Canelo. Whereas Canelo... his options is more limited. Bradley is another fight where Cotto would make good money. Not crazy money, but still solid.

Cotto is a Free Agent. He works with Top Rank on a fight by fight basis. So he can still do a Mayweather rematch if he wanted.

Cotto will be fighting for New York, for very obvious reasons. VERY. Just like Oscar and Canelo will want Vegas, for obvious reasons. They'll have the fight advantage. Cotto will not let that one happen, unless Canelo is willing to take a very low purse, and even then I highly doubt Cotto would agree.

This is business, Cotto will always be an option at Showtime if he's available. Until Cotto's stock is worthless.

Wrong! Canelo/Lara did 230k, while Cotto/Martinez did around 350K.

You do realize that you're comparing a PPV amongst two of the biggest stars in boxing in the last 10-years (Cotto-Martinez) against a PPV with one if the highest stars presently (Canelo) and a virtually unknown boxer (Lara.) And the Cotto-Martinez PPV barely surpassed the Canelo one. Think about that.

I have a feeling that if Cotto starts putting diva like demand on the fight, Canelo and his team will walk away from the negotiations and "squeeze" out a fight with Pacquiao.

But we'll see. Like I said, I just want the fight to get made. I haven't been excited about a PPV in a long time, and Cotto/Canelo definitely would get the excitment going.

That is very possible, that Team Canelo could walk away. People assume this is going to be an easy fight to negotiate. The reality is that will is be difficult for a variety of reasons. The venue alone is going to be a huge sticking point. Will Canelo concede to fighting in a venue packed with Ricans? Tough one to answer. Will Cotto be cool with fighting in a venue packed with Mexicans rooting for Canelo? The answer to that is HELL NO.

I wouldn't be surprised if this fight falls apart in the negotiation table. People say Cotto is a diva, but if Cotto is a diva, then what is Canelo? Wanting to take Mayweather's dates? They are both divas.

Why is there all this talk about a May date against Canelo? Do people forget cotto calls the shots and decides insted of canelo? For all we know Cotto wants to fight in february and then in june against Canelo. I also doubt cotto wants to go against a mayweather card. So why all the issueabout if the guy that decides will probably pick another date

I don't think that they forgot as much as they never understood that. At least the fans on this page don't understand that. They don't understand that the guy who brings in the most money -- Cotto -- dictates the terms. They don't understand that Cotto, in the fights where both were considered the A-side fighter, has performed a hell of a lot better on PPV than Alvarez. They don't understand that Alvarez, his promoter and Cotto's faux promoter, Bob Arum, are the only ones talking about a Cotto/Alvarez fight in May 2015. Cotto has not mentioned a word about the possibility of fighting Alvarez, let alone in May.

Cotto calls the shots, but the Alvarez fans think he does.

Industry sources say Alvarez generated 360,000 pay-per-view buys earlier this year against Alfredo Angulo, and around 325,000 buys vs. Erislandy Lara in July, a bout that competed against the World Cup.
