Cotto is making very fine paychecks. Multi Million $ per fight. He is the only high level fighter in the sport who is capable of choosing who he wants to fight. He is a true free agent.

Some Say Mayweather is, but he isn't. Floyd could wake up today after some vivid dream and say he wants to go over to top rank again, but, he would not be able to. He is locked in. Manny is also locked in. Everyone except some lower level fighters are. And the lower level fighters are hoping to get locked in with a promoter.

Floyd Mayweather isn't locked into any Promoter. That was the whole point of buying out his contract from Top Rank. So that he could be independent and remain independent. Miguel Cotto likewise is independent. The only difference is that Mayweather is 'locked' into a network deal with Showtime for a fixed number of fights.

Pacquaio though is locked with Top Rank til the end of 2016.

oh i agree cotto is making good money BUT its still not the type of money pac or floyd is making. thats why if pac was to be a free agent it does not guarantee him making more. he will be free to fight when he wants, etc but he wont be making anywhere near what he's making with TR. even if he goes and fight a gbp fighter, gbp will not pay pac $20+mil when they have to pay their own fighter also, and pac is not even fighting for them so i just cant see gbp dishing out $20mil for pac when canelo is suppose to be their next future star and he's not even making anywhere close to that.

Cash Money is not owned by Lil Wayne though. He's only vital in that he's Cash Money's biggest artist. But he has no ownership in Cash Money.

The offer could've came from Madonna or Russell Simmons, and it still would've been crazy for Pacquaio to make a deal with them.

Unless they set Manny up with soft competition till the end of 2016, I cannot see Manny in the sport for that long. he is going downhill quickly and I can only see a couple more viable fights in him at most.

He should have went out on his own, leave more options for himself. He could still do business with Top Rank or whoever wanted to offer him the biggest money for a particular fight.

That is what Cotto did and he is getting pretty good paydays. He is also picking and choosing who he wants to fight, no matter what promotional banner they are a part of. Cotto is still doing business with Top Rank after leaving them, but has done business with GBP and just may again for his next fight.

Many people don't understand that Pac can still fight because being a congressman in the PI doesn't require him to be their often, once he runs for the Philippine Senate and if he wins (which for the most part is a lock) his fight career is done. unlike in the Phil House of Representative, Senate rules REQUIRE him to be in attendance at least 50% of the session.

After 2016 Pac will be done fighting.

Yes, he is free, by nature of the way his business his structured. You can argue that he's Haymon's puppet if you want. But you cannot argue that he's not free. Prior to his Showtime deal, he wasn't even locked into HBO.

Pacquaio wasn't locked into HBO either. Top Rank was doing things fight by fight. That's how Pacquaio went over to Showtime temporarily, for the Mosley fight. And how do you think Mosley was able to leave Golden Boy just to fight Pacquaio and sign an exclusive one fight deal with Top Rank?

But yet...Floyd somehow isn't as free as Shane Mosley was.
