Look, let's set aside opposition for one second here. Let's talk ability. Can't you see that he was a special fighter? Just in the way he moves, you can tell if a guy's special. If you've got the eyes that see. Can't you appreciate poetry?

If you "Set opposition aside" plenty of fighters can look special.

Lucian Bute looked pretty special to quite a lot of people for quite a long time.

But no I don't see a special fighter. He lost to Robin Reid in my eyes, he struggled with Hopkins and his best win is against Kessler and whilst winning comfortably he hardly looked special.

He looked special against Jeff Lacy, and the likes of Richie Woodhall and Peter Manfredo, etc.

Not really a difficult task to do so.

Let's not forget Calzaghe wanted none of Glenn Johnson. Calzaghe even avoided a JOURNEYMAN! THREE TIMES! Then picked on Johnsons leftovers(Jones) after he was shot for four years. He cherry picked overseas until Hopkins slowed down.

I give it to Joe that he was fast. But who wouldn't be throwing half ass open fist slaps? Once Hopkins lost his speed and had to start grinding opponents out after he lost a few steps, THEN and only then Joe took that fight.

Joe was a decent fighter in a horrible division with great fighters above and below his weight class. Yet kept putting on a tomato can clinic until they got old. Roy put him on his ass in the first. A younger, stronger, faster Roy obliterates him in 8. Hopkins that fought Tito and before who had speed schools Joe over twelve.

It boggles the mind and shows a real lack of comparative analysis to even make this a basis for comparison. There are different classes of fighter based on attributes, competition vis a vis resume etc. When Calzighe finally took a risk and fought Lacy people even had their doubts! NOBODY would doubt Jones against Lacy....Not for a New York minute they wouldn't!

Active = workrate. Like I said, those were the kind of fighters that Jones ate up. Can't throw a bunch of punches and just step back against an extremely fast, hard-hitting counter-puncher who threw punches in bunches too.

But you make it sound like Joe would just trundle in with punches, if you read my entire post, although Joe was a combination puncher, he was never recklessly active, he knew when to punch and when to defend and when to counter and when to dictate the pace.

He was recklessly active...a lot! And even if he wasn't, throwing punches wasn't the way to beat Jones. You think Jones was going to stand there and let Calzaghe look special or something?
