DLH vs Chavez I and II were too big of a beating to think any version of Chavez would come remotely close to beating DLH. It was a slaughter against a still top 5 Chavez. I'm just not buying into the hype of the 100+ fights. I think Mosley would have always destroyed Chavez Sr too.
De La Hoya fought a well passed prime Chavez so I don't think their fights can really indicate anything.

You're not alone because I feel the same way about that. Based on size, style, and hand speed.

You understand that sparring means nothing.

By the sounds of the crowd yelling "Taylor!" I'm guessing he's getting ready for his fight with Meldrick Taylor.

It's Chavez Sr's job to work only on his weaknesses against that style, and just be comfortable in there with that style.

I've seen tons of sparring footage of guys only working on their weaknesses, and letting the other guy go to town on them.

You'll see tons of sparring sessions where the guy that's getting ready for the fight is only working on certain aspects during a certain sparring match. Like head movement, timing, spacing, foot work, etc. This is probably a case of that.

Benard Hopkins, but if your saying that because he has fought Roy Jones then u gotta give credit to Roy for fighting Jones as well.

I was trying to list active fighters. Roy's last competitive fight was against Joe Calzaghe, I have considered him retired since then.

Your massively underrating Chavez in this thread. The fact you rated all those guys above Chavez and think no version of Chavez beats Oscar is laughable. I don't if you base your whole opinion on him being viewed as a "brawler" or if you've really seen him fight, and I'm not talking YouTube highlights.

Chavez in his best years beats the **** out of Oscar and Mosley. He had great timing and a great inside game . It was remarkable to see him roll punches and had exceptional head and waist movement. For such an offensive fighter he was great defensively and rarely took any punishment in his prime. Offensively he was every bit as skilled in the manner in which he controlled distance and set up his punches with different variations. Every punch he threw had a purpose he was simply a highly skilled fighter whose skills are overlooked because of his aggressive style.

At 32 years old, past prime yes, well pas it, i'm not sure.

Regardless, I just don't see what a prime 5'7", 66" reach Chavez, no matter how great, could do to such a strong, powerful, strong chinned, well defended, 5' 11" De La Hoya with mid 70s reach. I just don't see it

DLH would always be too big, too strong, too powerful, too technical for his size. It would just always be a slaughter and i;m not buying the whole "Chavez was too past it to gauge anything". All I need to see is the size difference, along with the special attributes of both fighters, to see that P4P, prime vs prime, DLH would always crush Chavez.
