I think that only the heavyweights would have a shot, I mean if brock lesnar and Kimbo slice can have some success in the ring........ Tyson vs Tank Abbott prime for prime.................go!
Dana White saying Mayweather would....

Much more physically demanding. The thing is that grappling isn't a harder activity to master per se....It actually takes a lot more fine motor coordination and precise two dimensional footwork (two feet on the ground no other part of body) to make a punch work...but it is a lot more physically demanding and there are so many more variables when working with at least 3 points of contact on the ground.Comment

This is like saying 'man, Mayweather would get his ass kicked at a karate tournament'. Just makes him sound like a dumbass.
I bet Peyton Manning would get freaking SMOKED in the Daytona 500.
Tight logic.Comment

And there are washed up footballer players and basketball players who have had limited success as boxers SO THE **** WHAT? When any fighter gets to a level where guys know what end is up they will be exposed.
I happen to really like Kimbo Slice...I think what he did was interesting and different than a professional athlete who fights does. But Kimbo is a great example of what happens when you go outside your area of expertise.
As a matter of fact the same can be said for the Gracie Brothers. They were able to neutralize any attack....a wonderful and admiral martial arts skill. But when the comp got better in MMA and they were outside that area of expertise they lost the edge they had.
You see where i am going with this? I bet if you went to Curling, the gayest sport in existence, and you had been a janitor so you could sweep....you would do ok at a certain level, but when you got to a place where the better curlers (I am laughing at this notion) were, you would not be able to hang on that skill alone. IN A WORD its all sports because human beings are training specific when it comes to learned behavoir.Comment

It's just logic that a boxer isn't going to beat an MMA fighter In the octagon and an MMA fighter isn't going to beat a boxer in the ring. But fair enough MMA might be big in America but it's no where near as big as boxing in the UK or in Europe for that matter.Comment

Despite what you think might happen, he already fought a once top 10 HW in the amateurs, walked Helenius down and beat him on the ropes through most of the fight, but got robbed. Too bad he didn't stick to boxing, but I wouldn't be surprised that he got fed up with boxing politics.Comment

ridiculous. Martial application is martial application. Guys in boxing specialize in just punching, thus making them generally more efficient and destructive overall with punches than any mma fighter. The great ko artists of boxing would look like murderers in the octagon, due to those gloves. This cannot be stressed enough. The concussive force and added piercing power afforded by those gloves would magnify a 1 punch ko artist's already devastating punching power to maiming and even lethal levels.
Mma guys largely overspecialize, thus diluting their overall focus and artistry. A jack of all trades is a master of none.
According to what? Fatass shot ass James Toney? What prime boxing champion has tried his hand at mma? None. Why? Well its gonna stay that way there is simply more money for the fighters in boxing than in UFC. Dana White fleeces his fighters. That's why boxers don't go over to mma and disgrace the name of the discipline until they are washed up, castoffs, or broke ass retirees.
Umm. Mma is at most what.... 3 5 minute rounds? There are boxers that train to throw over 1000 punches in 12 rounds.. so lets say in 46 minutes thats 1000.. thats roughly 333 punches thrown in 15 minutes. Point me to an mma fighter capable of throwing 333 good punches over 3 5 minute rounds. While your at it link me footage of the match. Ill be generous.. kicks can count too. So 333 strikes.
Needless to say, it can be easily argued the best boxers also have better conditioning.
its not about Mayweather's athleticism completely. It his artistry.. his mentality. Simply put, he's a martial prodigy. He would excel at any martial discipline much like Bruce Lee did, another martial prodigy.why does a mmgay fighter necessarily have to box to prove anything to a boxer? Why can't they both fight with punches and kicks and tackling and see who is the best???
floyd is so athletic that he could become a top level wrestler in about 6 months. If he wanted to, he could be the 160 mma champion, but he goes after the dough.
Where Bruce mislead people is his method of diluting disciplines only truly works for martial prodigies like him. Everyone else should pick a specialization, and strive to perfect it.Comment
