Pacman was favored over Cotto. And no more catchweights huh?? HMMM. You musta forgot.Beating Oscar didn't make him a welter, much less welter champ. It was a one off vs a guy not top 10 welter quality, in the shape he came in. Put it like this:
12 months prior to the fight, and he's a huge underdog to Cotto at welter (or 145)
In the mean time he'd barely taken a punch above 130
Lots of reasons to think he couldn't cut it at welter. But that's Pac, once he routed a top 3 Cotto at a CW, no more welter CWs.
Ohh edit: You said welterweight catchweight. Still not ignoring the fact his team needed it then and wanted one for the rematch they asked for.Last edited by Bushbaby; 01-06-2014, 11:17 PM.Comment

Because Dawson was able to rehydrate. How's that different than Ward Dawson? Here's how:
Dawson came down a full division, DLH went down 3lbs
Pac went up 2 divisions, Ward didn't budge
Pac was moving up to his 7th (all time record), Ward staying in his 1st
Dawson never did anything at 168, Oscar accomplished at welter, his 4th
Prime Oscar > Prime Dawson
Drained Oscar > drained Dawson, cause he still brings a chin
Oscar could not rehydrate. He was SMALLER than Pacquiao in the ring. Pacquiao beat a SMALLER Oscar.
Was it Oscar's fault? Yes. Was it an accomplishment on Pacquiao's part? No.
Lol at "Oscar making an excuse." Yeah, being starved and dehydrated 23 pounds from your normal weight, then being 1 pound lighter than your hydrated, well fed opponent, is an "excuse."
Idiots. Go box, cut weight, actually work in the industry. You guys have no idea what you're talking about, and your ****** comments are laughable to anyone who knows how professional fighting works.
Like, for example, the #2 P4P Andre Ward, whose finger nail clipping has more credibility than you when it comes to boxing opinions.Comment

He seems very pro Mayweather and anti Pacquiao although he tries to cover that up. He says how Oscar had so much trouble with weight in the Pacquiao fight and leaves out that Oscar picked the weight they fought at. He also leaves out that Pacquiao won every round and made a punching bag out of Oscar and made him quit. Floyd had to settle for a split decision over Oscar. He remembers Cotto had to lose weight to fight Pacquiao but conveniently forgets Canelo had to lose just as much weight to fight Mayweather. He says Pacquiao might end up in the hall of fame. Hell, Andre, Pacquiao is a first ballot hall of famer without a doubt just as Mayweather is. He says he has no idea who will win the Pacquiao-Rios fight. That's sort of like saying he has no idea who will win the Mayweather-Khan fight.Comment

Fair enough, chalk it up to a bad career move. I still don't think it's fair that everyone blamed Ward for Dawson's peformance. Dawson challenged Ward for his title at 168lbs and he accepted, end of story.I dont think Dawson did it for advantages. I don't know why he did it at all to be honest. Strange career move.Comment

Probably because he was told Ward wasn't moving up and he wanted a big fight since there was nothing at 175. Quite easy to figure out. There's no way Dawson really wanted to move down.Comment

Pac was willing to fight him at 147, not a CW, at any point after he became welter champ. Or fight him at 150, as requested by Cotto of both Marg 1 year prior, and of Pac 6 months prior. But not 154, cause he'd previously said he's not going up that high. 8th division too much even for PacComment

If Usain Bolt is 23 lbs starved and dehydrated, and I beat him in the 100 meter dash, no it is not an athletic accomplishment. You ****ing non-athlete.WTF? Oscar's previous fight at 150, went looking for a midget to beat on at 147. Everybody knows it was a cherrypick gone wrong. And if that's not enough, now Cotto was a 154er lol.
CWs are old news, but if you go ****ting on another fighter for using them in his 7th and 8th division, you gonna get some **** back if you request one. Especially only in your 5th division, where you're supposed to be 2x and reigning champ. It's both the massive hypocrisy, and the admission that you can't hang in only your 5th. Or at least that's how he feels.
Pac asks when he's moving up higher than anyone before. If he finds he can handle it, he doesn't ask for a CW in that division. If he can't, he's upfront, and drops the belt like after Marg, can't handle that 8th division. Floyd, he keeps the belt for a year, asks not to get stripped, then insists to unify at a CW.
Manny has only moved up so many weight decisions because when he was 16, he was already boxing pro at 106 lbs. That's just because the Philippines didn't have a good amateur program and he needed money. If Tyson went pro at 16, he could have started at middleweight. The catch phrase "moved up 8 weight classes" sounds idiotic to anyone who has actually fought and know what BS the weigh in system is.Comment

Both clearly lost weight in a bad way. Per Dawson's trainer, there was some weight cutoff below which his chin turned into putty, and spent much of his camp sweating weight. Plus the infamous Miranda KO in sarring. Of course, he had a lot more weight to shed than Hoya, who fought at 150 1 fight prior and started at 130/135.Because Dawson was able to rehydrate.
Oscar could not rehydrate. He was SMALLER than Pacquiao in the ring. Pacquiao beat a SMALLER Oscar.
Was it Oscar's fault? Yes. Was it an accomplishment on Pacquiao's part? No.
