The guy dominated his era until the GOAT arrived.

BTW I'm not saying "Liston IS top 5". I'm just pointed out these lists are subjective so Liston could be top 5 one day and top 10 another, depending upon how you view it. We will NEVER know who the Greatest heavyweight is because it is impossible for them to fight each other in their respective primes.
Your last sentence is the truth and ive given my ranking. If it wasnt an opinion people on here would have a reason to get bent out of shape. I guess the naive posters on here dont know the difference between a harmless opinion and slander. Not saying that is you.

its hard to say who's the 'best' because all those guys in that list would beat each other in different matchups, I would put Vitali, Lennox and Ali as the most dominant all around. Meaning, if they were matched against that list, I think those three guys would win most of their fights.

Between Louis' 25 defenses and the incredible comp Ali faced its clear those two stand alone no matter which you rate the best. No one else even comes close.

The resume of Ali is extraordinary not only for heavyweights, but for any division in the sport of boxing. Ali never experienced a loss until after he was forced into the 3.5 year layoff. He was never knocked out, and was only stopped once when his condition had deteriorated due to Parkinson's. Due to the disease that shortened his career and the stripping of his boxing license followed by layoff, we'll never really know how good he could've been.

Even with those disadvantages, Ali accomplished more in his shortened career than the long careers of many other great hall of famers in the sport.

Joe louis was and is the most technically sound heavyweight to date. At 6'2" 190-200lbs had the mobility using short steps to be able to stop/plant/then throw punches with POWER! He was a great combination puncher and monster at going to a mans body and breaking them down.

Ali was simply the Greatest! Louis was the Best! Ray.

                    Joe Louis
KO'd six universal heavyweight champions, Defeated the British Champion, Held the sole world title for 11 years, 8 months, and 8 days straight with 25 successful defenses. I also don't believe he ever defended against anyone lower than rank #10.

prime ali beats them all and makes it look easy.
