Ali IMO. Beat the invincible Liston, beat Floyd Patteron in his first tenure. Then beat Foreman, Frazier, Norton, Lyle, etc in his 2nd tenure.

Though for all I know Sonny Liston could be 2nd best. He utterly dominated his era up to meeting Ali the first time, some critics were calling him the best ever, including Joe Louis. If Ali arrived later and Liston continued his dominance, his name would be thrown in strongly for the best ever. But could it be the 2nd best heavyweight of all time lost to the very best heavyweight?

Didn't Broner do all those things better than Maidana as well?

I would also question him being more skilled. Vitali has never been outboxed by anyone he's ever faced. That can't be said about Ali.

Liston's not in the top ten let alone top 3-5.

Why? He dominated from the mid-50's until the mid 60's when Ali arrived. He knocked out Cleveland Williams twice, Zora Folley, Floyd Patterson (the champion) twice, he beat Eddie Machen. There was seldom a champion as dominated and intimidating as Liston.

The guy dominated his era until the GOAT arrived.

BTW I'm not saying "Liston IS top 5". I'm just pointed out these lists are subjective so Liston could be top 5 one day and top 10 another, depending upon how you view it. We will NEVER know who the Greatest heavyweight is because it is impossible for them to fight each other in their respective primes.

No. He wasn't more skilled than Maidana. That was made quite clear in their fight.

You've clearly got some kind of agenda if you're actually questioning who's more skilled between Ali and Vitali.

Barring a cut, Ali either gets knocked out or loses a decision.

But you can believe what you like solely based on the legend status. It's casual. It's similar to saying that Jordan is automatically better than Bryant based on merit. It may not be true but it's popular belief.

This post does to logic what the Bimini twist does to a length of fishing line; crooks it completely out of shape for the use of offshore trolling!

A step by step guide on how to tangle logic using a Bimini twist.

Step 1: Acquire the belief that ponderous mechanical plodding outworks speed, stamina fuelled fluidity, and grace of movement.

Step 2: When the odious thought seeps into your consciousness, like a fart in a crowded elevator, that a two dimensional fighter will confound and outclass a multi dimensional boxer, sniff it up and decided that yes, this funk is indeed righteous.

Step 3: Decide that successfully bettering three of the hardest punchers of all time is a sure fire sign that a fighter couldn't emulate Derek Chisora and last the distance.

Step 4: Lastly, finish off your tangling of logic with a complete misuse of the phrase 'based on merit'. Do this in a manner that can only be described as stupefying.

Congratulations! You are now ready to Go Fishing!

nah Ali would duck all his shots and cause a rotator cuff injury which will cause vitali to quit
