Nah, Williams was almost shot when he signed to fight Canelo. He would probably have been stopped by Canelo.

What does that have to do with anything I said? You're always deflecting to Amir Khan. He was the best at 140 until Danny Garcia beat him.

Now stop ducking points that are related to the thread.

And? What does it matter If he was in his prime or not?

        He still avoided the rematch.

Can you not cherry pick if you're passed your prime or avoid fights?

If that's the case then Mayweather isn't cherry picking Khan like your OP states because he's well removed from his prime.

The other day I said Mayweather wouldn't get credit if he beat Martinez and somehow in his brain that meant I was comparing Martinez to Amir Khan despite the fact my post said nothing about Amir Khan.

Yeah Miguel Cotto came out and fought Jennings for the vacate belt.. So Miguel Cotto isn't no saint.
Was Cotto supposed to fight him before or after he got outboxed by Carlos Quintana? Also, was Cotto supposed to pass on Mosley and Margarito for Paul Williams? Hell no, he fought the best opponents at the time he fought them, Mosley off boxing prime Collazo silly and Margarito demolishing Cintron in the rematch.

He fought Michael Jennings coming off the Margarito loss*, his first of his pro career and a very physically taxing one at that. Should he have fought Williams then? Cotto didn't duck Paul Williams.

he wasnt ducked by the whole dvisions, but he was avoided by the whole division for sure. in case you cant tell the difference, avoiding someone is not getting in the ring with them unless you have to, ducking someone is downright refusing to fight them.

while not everyone was refusing to fight williams nobody would get in the ring with him unless they had to or got paid ridiculous money, they just didnt want it. keep in mind back then there wasnt much of a blueprint on how to beat williams, he boxed and used more angles at 147 than after he moved up in weight too. then he got flat footed and loaded up more on his shots, only then did he become so vulnerable to couterpunchers.

but 147 pound williams was a different animal, one the boxing world had never seen before with his unique gifts and style. he was avoided really badly, the whole most avoided man in boxing thing wasnt a gimmick its who he was. he did leave the divsion because he couldnt get fights after all, he even tried to give rematches to ppl he already beat and they didnt want it.

He was comprehensively outboxed by Quintana at 147. He was the same fighter at any weight.

I remember certain people (some in this thread) that claimed Devon Alexander was "reborn" at 147

Williams was always one of my favorites,,, it thought when he beat margs, he was going to become a huge star in the future and would have loved to see him vs top guys like cotto, shane, floyd

Yes, williams was very limited, but he always came to fight, gave us great thrills in victory or defeat.
He couldnt handle slick movers like lara, quintana, but he always gave a valiant effort and never shelled up like an agebako or clottey when he was overmatched

Williams vs kirkland was a dream fight for me, especially in 08-09

Paul williams is sorely missed in boxing just for the excitement he brought to the fans
