And in what fight has any fighter achieved that? Name a Floyd fight, rigo fight, Pernell fight that it has happened. Its like saying basketball is scoring and not letting the other team score. Otherwise Vlad is the best "boxer" on the planet, he accomplishes that premise better then just about anyone, he almost never gets hit clean. Yet most fans of floyd don't agree with that, why exactly?

So true, really don't understand this.

Being a defensive wizard is acceptable and "true" boxing, unless you're Wlad

Obviously you will get hit in boxing but you danced around the question and then used wlad to defend your answer.

lets use the punch garcia landed on matts eye. you get the point now? had matts avoided that, maybe the fight turns out differently. thats why you want to avoid getting hit as opposed to hitting the guy better-especially if like Garcia he can take your better punch.

Its not floyd fans, its all fans. My best guess is because he looks like a phag hugging and holding when he's got a 25-40lb weght advantage.

Bob Arum of Top Rank has been outspoken about the repercussions of Guillermo Rigondeaux’s decision win over Nonito Donaire this past April. While the win established Rigondeaux as the champion at 122 pounds, the manner in which he boxed his way to victory didn’t bring a level of marketability befitting his accomplishments. After an extended period in which Rigondeaux didn’t have a return date on television, he’s at last set to appear on HBO on Dec. 7 in a bout against Joseph “King Kong” Agbeko. “I think Rigondeaux deserves to be back on television. I just hope he fights a more fan-friendly fight in his next fight,” Arum said on Oct. 18 at the weigh-in for Mike Alvarado vs. Ruslan Provodnikov.

Read this article and tell me I'm wrong. You can have your conspiracy theories about HBO but this sounds very much Arum telling Rigondeaux how to fight. What do you think he means by "fan friendly"?

Are people on here saying there is no difference between defence (lateral movement, slipping, parrying, reactive guard/blocking) and spoiling (holding, wrestling, grappling)? The irony is, Ricky Hatton was very attacking but was very guilty of hugging, wrestling and grappling, more in his later career as the opponents got tougher.

                  Every Robsinson needs a Lamotta...

                  Every Leonard needs a Duran...

Obviously he's not on either of their levels, but Ruslan's style is absolutely necessary in this game

Putting two slick pure boxers in the ring with each other is as good as watching fencing in a more open space for the casual fan. Is it no wonder that most of the slick pure boxers who have that worldwide recognition have had to wait years for their due or resort to being very vocal in and out the ring.

bingo. People want to see you finish off your opponent, not cruise to a points victory.
