Duran couldn't deal with the slick style of a naturally faster, stronger and better fighter than he was. Leonard displayed defense and Duran had no answer and quit.

It's still somewhat depressing that so few NSB'ers have actually watched this fight (or Duran/Leonard 1 for that matter) and instead rely on documentaries like this, 'Beyond the Glory', or 'Legendary Nights' to give them their (often biased) dose of boxing history.

Duran was in this fight. I'm not sure why he quit (nor is anybody else), but he was very much live in this fight on the official scorecards prior to doing so.

The only thing that really bothers me about the quit is the fact that it made Duran into something of a punchline among non-boxing fans and your average NSB ****tard who's never even watched more than a few Duran fights, if that. Very few non-boxing fans actually know what a monster this guy was.

I missed this documentary, but I'll be checking it out hopefully soon : Duran is one of those athletes (and boxing has quite a few of them throughout history) that is just ridiculously charismatic and fascinating, regardless of the language barrier.

American media turn it in to something completely different! Yawn Yawn Yawn

The problem with this theory is that Duran didn't take this approach when he fought Vilomar Fernandez, Lou Bizzarro or the two times that he fought Edwin Viruet. He was happy to run after these "clowns" who came to run and dance.

Of course, it's an entirely different scenario when you're actually winning, when it's you who is dictating the tempo and flow of the fight, and it's you who is in complete control of the actual fight.

It also mentioned that their predictions were right and Duran had to take diuretics just to make weight.

Duran had the same amount of time to prepare for the second fight as he had for the first fight, possibly even a little longer. They had agreed upon everything but a venue some two and a half to three months before they did fight. They sat across from one another just a month removed from Montreal in an ABC studio and both verbally agreed upon fighting again.

If you want to argue that Duran wasn't on the level of conditioning that he was for Montreal, fine - but the notion that Duran was offered this rematch out of thin air and unexpectedly is pure tosh.

Well isn't that unprofessional of Duran then? Leonard and his team have been known to look for things like that and Leonard has admit that in the past. No matter what you have to be a slave to your craft. No excuses

Duran quit. You can talk about how Duran didn't want to chase him, and Leonard fought like a girl, but he quit. Duran thought that everyone would be ok with this, but the world turned on him. You don't quit in boxing no matter how frustrated you are.

Those of you who side with Duran on his quitting are probably quitters yourselves.

There are no excuses that Duran's fans can ever give that will satisfy anyone than the truth. He got fat, had to lose the weight, lost it, got frustrated with Leonards antics, and QUIT.

He didn't fight me like a man. So why did you quit like a *****?

Now you know the truth. I love and respect Duran even when he speaks out of two sides of his mouth. He redeemed himself tenfold.
