I don't think a win over Delvin Rodriguez who's decent but not in the Top 10 at 154 should put you into position for a shot at the Lineage at MW regardless to who you are.
but we know its about the money

Murray is a very big MW and Martinez struggles with that style.

He was still punching hard and sharp and had the ability to move.

That version of Martinez would kill Cotto. He's going to kill him any way.
I thought he looked bad. Much slower and kind of sluggish. The knee surgeries and the hand injuries make it worse.

The reason why they are pushing for it so hard is because out of all of the major fights from 154-160 (Floyd, Canelo, Sergio); Sergio appears to be the most ****** up and on the downside of his career.

The funny thing is your point here is very similar to my original point just on the opposite side keep thinking it is different though.

Your argument is totally in contradiction to what we discussed the other day.

Your only as good as your last fight

serg last fight: looked old and broken down, and has been out a year

Cotto last fight: looked like a prime cotto

I think there is alot of intrigue to this fight,, If it was a prime serg, he would steamroll cotto, but an aging serg that can be pinned against the ropes and walked down, will be a very entertaining fight vs cotto

The thing that serg has that could help vs cotto, is that being a southpaw he can take away cotto's left hook...

Very interested in this fight,, is it leonard vs hagler type awesome,, NO but its better and more competitive than say hopkins vs oscar

And if Cotto wins and lands a lineal MW strap,,, Floyd will come calling,, That would be the only middleweight champ floyd would come up to fight IMO

He has a better chance against Canelo than he does Martinez.

If Martinez had literally anything left he beats the hell out of Cotto.

The Martinez who fought Murray kills Cotto.
Pretty much, Cotto is not a middleweight so the middleweight champ should handle him all day everyday. Who knows where Martinez is at though.

I would rather Martinez fight someone at 160 who actually earned the shot.

                  Martinez-Golovkin is the obvious fight.

I can understand Martinez taking it for the money though.

But Golovkin is who he should be fighting.

I still don't think its the same thing. This fight isn't going to draw 30-40,000 people because Cotto beat Delvin Rodriguez. It is going to draw that because of the reputation he's built in the sport of boxing by taking on all of the elite fighters of this era and being in several classic wars. A reputation that he's earned.

Khan is a top 5 fighter at 140 but doesn't have the career resume or recent success to justify going straight ahead to Mayweather.
