Why did Floyd fight Canelo when he came in at 172 lbs. against Trout? That's more than GGG weighed against Macklin and Martinez weighed against Murray. The Klitschko comparison is absurd since there is no precedent for such a weight differential in boxing history (as far as I know) nor in Floyd's past fights. People aren't throwing out bigger guys because they necessarily want him to lose (some do), but guys his own size don't seem to pose much of a challenge. It's really a sign of respect for Floyd's fantastic skills.Comment

Weighing in on 146 the morning of a fight, six pounds under the max is all the proof in the world that 154 is Mayweather's final frontier. He can't physically get bigger than where he's at now and keep his speed. Therefore unless Hopkins can get down to junior middle, this ain't coming off.Comment

Either way I don't see this fight being great since it's likely that either Hopkins will be a shell of himself or he will be able to impose his superior physical attributes (unlikely) as you suggest. Don't see much room for a middle ground.Comment

I think this fight is kind of ridiculous myself, but it isn't immediately clear that Floyd would be at the clear disadvantage. I highly doubt it would be easy for Bernard to lose this weight healthily.

Floyd needs to deal with Khan and Pacquiao at 147 (assuming Khan beats Alexander) then Floyd needs to go up and deal with the GGG's, Hopkins', Ward's, Martinez's of the world at 160 to complete his legacy then retire as TBE.
Khan at Wembley in England
Pacquiao at MGM
Hopkins at MGM
Middle Weight Champ (Martinez) at MGM to give Floyd a belt at another weight
then finish his career against the #2 P4P guy....
Andre Ward at the MGM
Floyd would not only be able to cash 40 million dollar checks for all of these, but cement his legacy with another 3-4 HOF'er on his hit list to go with the other 7 or so he's already beat.
There would be no doubt about his place at #1 ALL TIME after these names at these weights.Comment

Why should people go out of their way to buy his fights if there is going to be no drama against the WWs he is going to fight? Hasn't Floyd's camp always maintained that skills will trump size? If so, I'd like to see how he would do against Golovkin at 154 (maybe even 152). IMO, he's likely the biggest (somewhat realistic) threat to Mayweather for the time being. I understand it is unlikely to happen due to Golovkin not having name recognition (if he was Mexican or British he would likely have a much better shot) and the danger he poses, but a victory would certainly add to Floyd's legacy/resume.Comment

Bernard isn't serious about facing Mayweather. First of all, who will buy tickets to see that fight? He has a very unpopular ring style and lacks charisma. He is just looking to cash out by attempting to collect an easy pay day from Floyd, so he can retire.
In addition, it doesn't matter to him if he wins or loses. He just wants the money; Even if it means running the risk of ruining his health by damaging his organs from cutting so much weight in the process.
He needs go somewhere and sit himself down with that kind of nonsense. Boxing fans aren't interested in seeing that fight and I know that casual fans aren't too keen in demanding it either
The irony, in over 25 years of boxing, B-Hop has yet to build a solid fan base among the casual fan to prove that he can be a box office draw and has the nerve to come to the bargaining table empty handed. He has nothing Floyd need at this latter stage of his career because he has no leverage.Comment
