I thought the same thing about his times. I did factor in the altitude and kinda gave him a break but it still didn't look good. I think we can all agree that Canelo's training isn't on par with Mayweather's and some of the other elites but he's done fine with is so far so this shouldn't be an excuse.

The other observation I had from the episode last night is how upset they all got about Ellerbe's statement about the catch weight. This tells me TMT is getting in their heads.

Man, you guys are crazy! Canelo did like what 4,5 intervals and the last one was at 2:49. We're talking about a road that was kind of a small uphill, this is not a race track. He wears running shoes, no cleats. We don't know if he had run prior to that point, we know it's early in the morning and you're not gonna run as fast that early as opposed to later.

The world record for 800 meters is 1:40 in mint conditions. If Canelo pushed hard one time at a track he can do 2:20 and for a boxer that's incredible and for somebody as thick as him that pushes weights too, that's just very, very good!

Please.
Running at intervals is harder budd. There is something called inertia and when you stop and start again your body burns a lot more fuel and it's harder on the body. I thought you were the expert around here on running. I wonder how fast Bhop and Roy Jones run cause I've seen them run in mint conditions and they aren't running much faster either.

Hey he has enough stamina to stay undefeated this long but he honestly needs to step up hi s**** or next week will look like a total mismatch.

For some reason I came into this thread thinking it was about Areola running a 3 minute 800.
            Lol

But given the altitude and the number of intrrvals I don't think its that bad.

After a 2.5 month break from boxing season I was totally unfit and could run 3:00 literally straight away in the 800m and am now running 2:30 intervals. I weigh about 154 and Canelo is low 70s so he shouldn't be much slower - in fact he should be faster since he is a professional athlete after all. Anthony Joshua has not even had a pro fight yet and on a program in the UK that pits olympic athletes from different sports against each other (not even a serious thing just for fun) Joshua ran 2:26 and he's 17-18 stone and of similar age to Canelo. In all seriousness a professional boxer at that weight should be running 2:20s at worst (in a maximal effort test not intervals).
800 meters is about 0.5 miles. He runs it in 3 minutes and that's the same as a 6 minute mile. That's the same as running at 10 mph, which is pretty damn good. In the Marines, you are expected to be able to run 3 miles in 18 minutes, or 6 minutes per mile so he is basically in the same shape as a Marine in boot camp.

All I've got to go on is myself. In peak fitness I run 6-8x 800m intervals in around 2:30-40 each with 1 minute rest between intervals. That's faster pace than I can run 4 miles so while inertia is true to an extent, it is nowhere near offsetting.

Yeah, he did like 7 intervals of that. People think that sounds schitty but when they are running say 5 or 6 miles straight, I'd bet their average speed is more like 6 miles per hour or something, Canelo is pushing 10 mph and better.....big difference there.

You're assessment is pretty dumb, just because he ran 0.5 miles in 3 minutes DOES NOT mean he can run 1 mile in 6 minutes. That's like saying Usain Bolt could run a mile in 153.28 seconds because he can run 100 meters in 9.58 seconds.
