i've felt this way for awhile, they've been calling him the sure fire hall famer the puerto rican legend, the devastating body puncher i don't agree with any of that he's just one of those good not great fighters that develops a huge fanbaseComment

Regarding Hatton, by the time Cotto was a known name, he couldn't make 140 anymore and was forced to move up.
If anything, that fight should've happened at 147 when they had the WW tourney going on. Problem is Hatton got KO'd by Floyd.
Also, at the time, Bob was not a factor. Check the articles. Floyd, ellerbe, no one mentioned Bob as being the reason they couldn't fight Cotto at 147 like Bob is the obvious problem today. Cotto's fan base was the problem via Floyd himself.
You're making me wonder if you were following the sport at that time?Last edited by BoxingGenius27; 07-23-2013, 03:20 PM.Comment

Yes it is. If you go back and look at all the Fighters he's faced. Even the opponents he and mayweather share and he koed. In present day he has one of the best resumes. Aside from pac. If he would of avoided certain boxers like others do, he'd still be undefeated. He's beat many boxers who were undefeated at the time. But he will never get credit for his accomplishments. ohh wellllComment

Hatton fought Floyd when he was supposed to and Cotto was supposed to in early 08. It just didn't happen.Comment

Umm in 04/05 they were both 140lb title holders..
There's been numerous reports even on here stating that Mayweather asked for it at 140 but bobby didn't want it..claiming Cotto was "too green"
People always trying to pull someone's card on here smh..hence why I rarely even postComment

Before the Margarito fight, Cotto was like how Golovkin is today.
Pretty much, KO'ing everyone in his path outside of Shane Mosley.Comment

Now don't get me wrong, I've seen people post articles retrospectively regarding Mayweather vs Hatton/Cotto at 140, but if they followed the action as it happened, those fights weren't really fights demanded by the public. Cotto and Hatton were still building and learning their craft. They were looked at as "future" opponents to Mayweather.
Hatton fought Floyd when he was supposed to and Cotto was supposed to in early 08. It just didn't happen.
I believe a 140 Cotto was a wrecking machine and would've gave most 140lbers hell!
That's allComment

So is thread about Miguel Cotto's resume or about comparing JLC and Cotto? I don't understand the need to bring JLC into this debate.
As far as Miguel's opponents go, I think they are very underrated. I won't write a list as it's already been done, but Cotto defeated many guys who were in their prime and went on to do great things later in their career. A lot of them were also undefeated.
And I don't need to look at his resume to see the caliber of fighter he is because I have eyes. I've seen almost every single one of his fights and that was enough to tell me that he was an amazing fighter and sadly at this point, underrated.
Yes, by this point I'm sure most people know that he's my favorite fighter as he was really the main reason that I got so into boxing so my opinion is probably a little biased. BUT, I'm not Puerto Rican (not even an ounce of Latin) so I think that adds some credibility to my opinion.Comment

I like Cotto ALOT....I can't find anything really negative to say about him or his resume.....I do think he lost to Mosley and Clottey though....IMO Clottey beat him more convincingly than Shane did even with the flash knockdown....still, Cotto is a "G" in my book!!Comment
