Just so you know, Mayweather got a guaranteed $32 million to fight Robert Guerrero. That's Robert Guerrero. And that was just the guaranteed portion. Are you serious?! Even if he gave Pac 50/50 he would have made more money fighting anyone else at the time. in 2010 and even a year later it would have been the most lucrative fight in history. Most experts said both fighters could have commanded a $50 million guarantee with both getting a lot more on the upside. Money wasn't enough to risk the 0 then, and its not enough now.
I don't know about you, but $50 million to fight the second most popular fighter in the sport is a bad split for Mayweather if he can get $32 million for Robert Guerrero.Comment

Yeah, I didn't mean "paper champion". Victor Ortiz is an example of a shameful cherry pick, not an example you would ever hold up as an ATG and pound for pound #1 fighting a "champion" in his own weight class.
The fact that Floyd fought Victor Ortiz is a good indication as to why there's so much disdain for Floyd's accomplishments north of lightweight.
Don't be ******. You know he hasn't fought anyone like Canelo above 135, and you know that Victoria had exactly 1 fight at WW before fighting Floyd, when he went life and death with a limited brawler. Vicky is 1-2-1 in her last 4 fights. 1-2 as a WW, although one of the "welters" had no business fighting in that weight class.
Canelo is probably the best 154 lber in the world, he's undefeated and he's young. Don't talk about Victoria Ortiz who, coming off a draw at 140, was handed a shot at a WW paper belt in his very first WW fight.
Floyd wasn't exactly dominating that fight BTW. It's one of the reasons he's so shook with Canelo calling him out.Last edited by APryor; 05-28-2013, 07:41 PM.Comment

Difference is Pac gave up the belt right away and made no secrete that he would never defend it, was just doing it to make history.
Floyd has kept the 154 belt for over a year, talked about defending it, and brags about being the number one guy in two divisions. But when it comes to facing the best at 154, if reports are true, he wants to bring the guy down to 147?
If its true, and its not a given it is, no one can defend that.....Comment

Mainly the same people, both hating on Mayweather and backing the Mexican.
It really isn't that many people, but they're so vocal and so actively posting in every Mayweather thread that it feels like a lot more people than it is.Comment

If you think about it, of his last 6 fights will be against young world champions in their prime, starting with Guerrero. There aren't really any veterans left for him to fight unless Paulie beats Broner and puts himself into the picture.Comment

I don't know what other people were doing, but I was always calling Pac a paper champion at 154. They didn't fight at 154, it was a catchweight. And neither of those guys had any business being ranked at 154, let alone fighting for a title. Pac's claim to ever being a 154 pound champion is pure bull****.
At least Pac has come out and admitted he's too small to fight legit LMWs. Floyd should come out and do the same. There's really no shame in admitting you are too small for a weight class. Just vacate the phony belt and fight at 147 and below...Comment

He gave up the belt on the spot, said that 8th division is too much. Floyd is still holding a belt at 154, his 5th. In fact Canelo might be installed as his mando, see articleComment

Yes but the 50 million would be just the guarentee. Plus the back end of the PPV which at the time would have been huge. Probably broken the PPV record.Just so you know, Mayweather got a guaranteed $32 million to fight Robert Guerrero. That's Robert Guerrero. And that was just the guaranteed portion.
