for the idiots who don't think jmm-pac 3 was a cherrypick gone wrong, please shoot yourself in the head. the ONLY reason jmm-pac 3 happened is because pac saw what floyd did to jmm and thought he could have success too....the only problem is pac is too ****** and one dimensional to beat jmm like floyd did and got his ass whooped in the process. that's the epitome of cherrypick gone wrong.

You are right. Regardless Kessler and his promotor jumped at the chance to fight Ward first as he was unproven and easily agreed to do it in Oakland thinking it was going to be easy work. If I recall correctly at that time Kessler was on a winning tear and was the odds on favorite to win the SuperSix let alone beat Ward.

You're 100% correct. I was going to list Kessler-Ward but the fact that it was contractually obligated to an extent and the fact that I knew people would cry about it led me to hold back.

Fact of the matter is that the big baby Kessler and his know-nothing-about-boxing promoter were happy to have the Ward fight in the US and did so intentionally.

The Super 6 was their plan to get Kessler worldwide recognition and they saw Ward as an inexperienced and easy opponent to defeat. They were sure Jermain Taylor was the best American and they ceded the home advantage to Ward so they could get Taylor to Germany which they thought would ensure 2 victories instead of 1 if Abraham were forced to travel instead.

If you go back and look at the Sauerlands comments leading up to the fight there wasn't a single word spoken about Ward having 3 fights at home because he was a joke to them who would be beaten down by their star in short order.

Only after Ward kicked Kessler's ass did the Euro crybabies pipe up about Ward's schedule because they realized there was a 0% chance of the remaining Europeans beating him.

The biggest backfire cherry pick in recent memory would be Pacquaio-De La Hoya as previously mentioned.

Oscar outright ducked Margarito, wanted no part of him.

So instead, cherry picked what he thought would be an easy fight against Pacquaio and not only that, got an absolute beating from him.

It's funny, because you see people applauding Oscar for taking that fight these days Which is hilarious. "He'd fight anyone. He fought Pacquaio!"

Funny how much hate Oscar is getting in here. It was not a cherry pick at all.

Most sane people knew just how drained Oscar would be. He was about 50, hadn't fought at welterweight for a decade and he looked terminally ill on 24/7. It was just one big money making exercise.

The most recent cherrypick backfire has to Martinez-Murray.

Another one that was relatively recent was McCloskey-Corley.

                      Maidana-Morales was almost one.

                      Judah-Baldomir.

There's been quite a few in recent memory.
