I don't expect him to fight middleweights at all. That's unfair. But he's a 2 time junior middleweight champion, and a current junior middleweight champion. He has played his part to build up the fight with Alvarez. So fight Saul Alvarez.

      In so few words, exactly.

After combing through all these pages the conclusion.

It's ok for guys to come up in weight to fight Floyd but it's not ok for Floyd to go up in weight and defend his 154lb belt once. Martinez was willing to drain the hell out of himself to make 150 to fight floyd for two years offered 80% of all profits to Floyd. People had a problem with it because martinez was a 154lb king ages ago and now fights at 160. Now a natural 154lb fighter is willing to do the same and now he's too big even when the guy is willing to set a rehydration limit and even come down below 154lb to make the fight. Apparently Floyd trains 8 to 10 hours during training camp but only manages to somehow lose 2-4 lbs. Also by no stretch of the imagination walks around weighing more than 155, ever..even after rehydrating and not doing anything but jogging his daily miles.

Actually Sergio Martinez is ripe for the picking at 160. Floyd could take him out now that his body is breaking down and collect the legendary middleweight strap. Sergio isn't going to beat Mayweather at this point. I'd be satisfied with Floyd just fighting Canelo though at 54. He really doesn't belong at 160.

Mayweather should absolutely fight Canelo at 154, not only for legacy but for the money as well..... No excuse or reasoning with weigh here.

good article. i probably fall into the category of fan of mayweather the boxer not mayweather the person.

my own take on this is that mayweather should only fight with a limit higher than 147 if he wants to. i.e. if he sees some benefit whether that be in terms of $$s, legacy, whatever.

alternatively mayweather could/should just take the approach of "i am here at 147, anyone wanting a shot that thats the weight limit, bring it on . . " and fight absolutely anyone at that weight.

he can only be the best of whoever is around in his own time, not anyone else's. pound-for-pound, all-time ranking, etc., etc., is just subjective bull****ting anyway.

                    Gayweather already ducked martinez

Fraud Gayweather will never fight Sergio Martinez who has speed, can move, box, whip and KO that ass.
Alvarez is too slow, Fraud would run in the ring making it a snoozer winning rounds but Martinez would tax that ass. Fraud ducked a 80-20 split back then.
